What a great find. The food in this restaurant is innovative and exquisitely executed, backed up by friendly, professional-yet-informal service and a very interesting wine list. The ingredients are of top quality and cooked with extraordinary skill - try the duck main and the pear desert for example. The restaurant space is just right for comfort and conversation too.
Outstanding value, do not hesitate.

Dined at The Zanzibar on a recent trip from Melbourne to Sydney and was delighted by our expirience. Service was warm & charming and the food divine. Can't recommend it highly enough.

My boyfriend and I are currently passing through Merimbula for the night and chose to eat at the Zanzibar Cafe over a close Thai restaurant. It is very clear that it is a higher-end restaurant from the outside.

The decor is simple and elegant. The staff were all very, very friendly and upon our arrival it was explained that they serve a two course meal for $60 or a three course for $75. We were not put off by the prices as again, it was clear from the ambient atmosphere, the staff and the dress code of the other patrons that this was would not be a shabby food experience.

My boyfriend had abelone as an entre and I had a yellow fin tuna as mine. It was absolutely beautiful and I found absolutely no fault with any part of both of them. For my main I had white fish with majoma, tomato and walnuts. Again, faultless. My boyfriend had a very tender lamb dish.

Neither of us could resist dessert.. He had a strawberry ice cream with meringue and strawberry sauce that came out in a small, black, kettle pourer. I had the selection of cheeses.

We adored this restaurant and agreed that we haven't had a meal this great in awhile. We do both eat out a lot.

The staff were great as well.

If you're on a tight budget this place probably isn't for you but in this case you certainly do get what you pay for.

Thanks for a great dining experience, Zanzibar Cafe!

We eat out A LOT so that is saying something! The rabbit risotto was delicious and the whitefish divine. If you want a schnitzel and chips and a middie- the bowls club is down the road. But for a sophisticated experience where it is about quality not quantity, you cant go wrong here.
We had friends go three days later and had a similar positive experience.

We went to Zanzibar for Friday lunch. We had a three month old baby and they were very accommodating considering that lunch is a quieter time for them.
The host Renee was extremely welcoming and knowledgable and we were well attended to at all times. The two chefs have experience working for Peter Gilmore and Tetsuya and the food was well presented, delicious and served quickly. We were also given some bonus pre- and post- desserts which was a lovely touch and very generous. Nothing about the meal was a disappointment and we considered it extremely good value for money. We were impressed with the use of quality local ingredients and we will certainly be back next time we are in town.
