“Relaxing and comfortable home away from home in beautiful surroundings”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2010

We stayed for a week in a Lorhiti Garden Apartment and really appreciated the thought that has gone into setting up these apartments. Everything we could need for the week was provided. We prepared quite a range of meals easily in the apartment. I loved the location as I would wake early and walk down to Ned's Beach for the sunrise and then come back for a cuppa out on the front balcony listening to the birds and the breeze rustling in the palm trees. Often had a visit from one of the woodhens. The weather wasn't so great while we stayed there so we had to spend a bit more time in the apartment than we would have liked. This was not a problem as it was roomy enough that the three of us didn't get in each other's way. It was really cold on one day and we made good use of the heater provided. I felt that the location was great - the setting was lovely and quiet away from the road and more than compensated for the slight hill we walked up to get there. My 86 year old dad who was not so well could negotiate the hill up to Lorhiti - not so steep on foot but inexperienced bike riders may find they have to get off and push for the last short stretch. It was really easy to head down "town" via Ned's Beach road and I often walked down to Joy's shop by heading further along Anderson Road and using the shortcut through to Middle Beach Road which cuts off the worst of the hill near Joy's shop. While it is easy to get around the island with pushbikes, I really enjoyed walking as there is really no hurry on the island and that's what I loved. We could also just duck down quickly in the evening to watch the mutton birds come in at Ned's Beach. Phoebe and Phil do a great job keeping the apartments and the grounds lovely and clean and tidy and well maintained. We also appreciated the ease of using the laundry and not having to find coins for the washing machine.

On landing at Lord Howe Island for the start of our holiday, we were met at the airport by a smiling and very friendly "Phoebie" from Lorhiti Apartments to take us to our lodgings and settle us in for our holiday. We were given a wealth of information by her on the way to the apartments. On arrival we were shown the facilities and were very happy with what we saw and nothing was omitted in the explanations. We shared a garden apartment and an adjoining one with our friends.

We were advised that if we needed anything to contact Phil and or herself and about placing our names and times on the board for other restaurant visits for transport purposes.

The location of the apartments are great for what we wanted to enjoy on Lord Howe like snorkelling, walking on the islands tracks, fishing and shopping and visiting local cultural activities.

Neds Beach, being a short walk directly from the apartments through an astonishing rain forest with incredible Fig trees and other vegetation, is an eye catcher and a big surprise for feeding fish and water activities.

The apartments are located at walking distances from all of the shopping facilities and some restaurants on the Island. We chose to walk instead of hiring bicycles.

The restaurant at Lorhiti was well serviced on the open nights and pricing reasonable for the location. Food quality and service was very good.

For dining at other restaurants on the island we simply placed our names and times on the white board at the caretakers cottage for transport and were always picked up at the required times. When booked at other restaurants, that restaurant always arranged return transport. Could not complain about this unique service.

The apartments had all of the necessary cooking and cutlery utensils to make the stay enjoyable and for self supporting families like ourselves. The apartments are very well maintained and our stay for a week in them was very comfortable and enjoyable. They were sited in a beautiful and well maintained garden setting and there was outdoor barbeque facilities available. There is also a well serviced laundry with a pay phone and small library.

We were impressed with the service from the caretakers Phoebie and Phil and it was a pleasure to deal with them both. Their assistance and ever present friendliness enhanced our stay at Lorhiti.

My mother and I stayed at Lorhiti Apartments, Lord Howe Island for seven days in March 2010. We were very well looked after by Phoebe and Dan who were always helpful and friendly. The rooms were spacious, clean and tidy. The facilities of the laundry, pay phone and Asian restaurant added to our enjoyable stay. The location of Lorhiti was excellent, with shops just a brief walk away. There is also a lovely short walk down to Ned’s Beach where we had a great time feeding the fish and also snorkelling amongst them. When we went out for dinner there was no problem with a lift to the restaurant. We highly recommend Lorhiti—it was a great holiday and already look forward to staying there again next year.

Lord Howe Island is truly a paradise on earth. We have been every year for the last 6 years and are booked for later in 2010. The true draw card is the peace and tranquillity that we get from the time we land, until the time we fly out (always a very sad moment) and part of this peace and tranquillity comes from staying in Lorhiti apartments.
There are 6 individual garden apartments, plus a small motel style room, and we have stayed in 3 different apartments over our times on Lord Howe. The apartments are always clean and tidy, with everything that you need to start your holiday. You are within 15 minute walk to 3 different shops on the island where you can buy all the supplies that you require for your stay.
The units are all fully equipped with a great kitchen setup to allow you to be self-sufficient if you so desire. The units are spacious and private. Each has its own small veranda to sit out on and enjoy the day/night. Each unit is equipped with TV, Video, DVD/CD players. Depending on the weather (sometimes the storms/wind make the channel reception a little difficult to get), the island is able to get most of the main stream TV channels, and there are a wide range of Videos/DVD’s to hire at the shops. A small library is situated in the laundry, so you can help yourself to the books during your stay. The units also supply backpacks for you while you are there, and these are great for shopping and collecting your supplies from the nearby stores. Umbrellas and torches are also supplied, and torches are a must at night time, as there are no street lights.
The apartments are surrounded by beautiful gardens, and there is a lovely gazebo in the grounds with a fully equipped with BBQ and table, so you can sit and enjoy the surroundings while cooking your fresh fish that you caught that day. There is a private walkway down to the popular Ned’s Beach, where you can feed the fish, snorkel, dive, and swim or just sit and take in the beauty of the place.
The grounds and apartments are always beautifully maintained, and the caretakers are always available to help/answer any questions that you may have. We have experienced the ‘Lord Howe Island’ blackouts each time we have been there, and the staff are always right there to make sure that everyone is okay, and ensure that the power comes back on as soon as possible. The main caretaker while we have been there is Jess, Gary & Di’s daughter and it is always a delight to see her, as she always makes sure that we, and the other guests are most welcome.
The staff at Lorhiti provide transport for you if you need to go somewhere in-particular. They will take you to any restaurant for dinner and the restaurant will have someone drive you home.

My husband and I stayed at Lorhitti Apartment, Lord Howe Island for seven days in February/March 2010. Lord Howe Island, a World Heritage Site, is also an idealic "hideaway" island with lots of opportunities for walking, climbing, cycling and water activities such as snorkelling, diving and swimming. The apartment in Lorhitti is clean, modern, spacious, and surrounded by beautiful gardens with a gazebo at the back. There is even a door to the back garden and within walking distance to Neds Beach. The caretakers, Dan and Jesse are very accommodating and friendly and are always there when needed. They certainly worked very hard to keep the aparments clean, and the garden trimmed. There is also a very nice Malaysian Restaurant in the complex and its owner, Stephen, cooked us some very delicious dishes. It is very handy especially after a "hard" day walking and swimming!! I also would like to thank the owner of Lorhitti, Gary for arranging the one day in Somerset as they could only accommodate us for six nights. We are so glad that we have finally visited Lord Howe Island and it is a place we highly recommended, and hopefully will visit again in future. So, visit Lord Howe Island but book EARLY because there is only a limited number of accommodations available.

Lorhiti Apartments, Lord Howe Island is a perfect get away holiday destination from the busy life of an Australian city. It has old fashioned ambience and charm. It is in the perfect position in relation to Ned's Beach, with an access path through the charming garden of banyan trees to the beach. There one is able to spend a delightful time hand feeding the fish. Situated on the eastern side of the island it is protected from the prevailing winds that are more evident on the western lagoon side. Lorhiti is not far from lagoon side however and can be accessed readily via two roads in a matter of about 15 mins walk. The gardens at Lorhiti are beautifully maintained and include a gazebo for outside entertainment. The Owens family have run Lorhiti for many years and are very welcoming and friendly.

After reading the first review we went with a little trepidation; however we found the staff very friendly and the place clean and cozy. The gardens are lovely and the walk to Neds Beach very picturesque
