We have recently returned from our 15 th holiday on lord Howe island. My first trip was in 1966 arriving for my honeymoon on a flying boat. There followed a busy life and so much of the world to see that we did not return to this incredibly beautiful island until 2001. Not that much had changed and mainly for the better and we have returned almost every year ever since. We have stayed at 3 different lodges but once we experienced Lorhiti we would never stay anywhere else - well we would if we had to but not by choice. Our stays are generally a fortnight long although I stayed a month once recovering from surgery ( the peace, sea water and relaxation did wonders for recovery). Personally we feel a week is too short but we are lucky to be able to spend more time. We often come with friends and have brought our adult children. I thought they might find it too quiet with no street lighting or much night time entertainment. They have all returned a second time and rate it as the best holiday ever.
Whilst Lorhiti is situated up a hill it is worth the slight extra effort. It has only 6 beautifully appointed suits which are spotless and recently tastefully refurbished. The suites are very private and we notice no noise from other suits. They are very well equipped and the new beds especially comfortable. The present managers Deb and Pete are a real find. They go well beyond the extra mile to help and make one feel comfortable - even brought round DVD's from their
own collection when bad weather confined us for several days. Incidentally bad weather can confine one on lord Howe at times and we would have to say we would far prefer to be at lorhiti than the other lodges we have tried in such circumstances.
We think Lorhiti is terrific value for money and cannot recommend it highly enough. We have friends from England who have spent a life time ( they are in their 70's but very sprightly) searching out the most idyllic places in the world in which to holiday. Having been introduced to Lord Howe by us they have now been 5 times - traveling from the UK primarily to enjoy the most idyllic place on earth. They too would stay for absolute first preference at Lorhiti..
Well done Diane and Gary and Deb and Pete. Just don't get booked up too much as we will need a spot next year!
