The first thing to note is this is an old fashioned family owned and run guest house not a resort.- charming, great staff who go out of the way to be helpful, fabulous food etc so don't go here expecting Bedarra. Once you are over that hurdle, WOW. Location, food, service are outstanding. Some in our group of 6 found no mobile phones and VERY limited internet access on the whole island frustrating to start but as they wound down, they recognised it was a real break and there was nothing to do but snorkel with turtles over beautiful coral, ride bikes on safe roads to gorgeous, beaches, take a hike into a Jurassic Park landscape or up a mountain, lounge around, watch the sunset into the ocean... in other words have a holiday.

We stayed in the three bedroom cabin with a full kitchen that we never used. Rooms were clean and well serviced. Our bathroom was a problem as there was a leaky shower screen but this was a minor inconvenience which was being corrected as we left. We were hardly in the room as there were many more relaxing, interesting places to be.

Go here for complete relaxation. Don't go here if you want nightclubs or city life. Don't let the price put you off - more than value for money when you take into account the airfare and all meals are included - all you need to spend is alcohol and decent coffee and bike hire and believe me you will want to hire a bike.

We have never been to Lord Howe before, and therefore had no idea what to expect from either the island or Pinetrees, so initially were a little surprised to find the accommodation so low-key and basic (for the cost). But our room was spotlessly clean, and had everything we needed, so we ended up feeling that not having any of the modern trappings was relaxing rather than a drawback. It's like going back to your childhood holidays at the family beach house, only with MUCH better food! The staff were all lovely and helpful, and by the time our week was up we were very sad to leave.

While we loved our Lord Howe Island holiday & Pinetrees in particular,I would advise caution with regard to the travel insurance recommended by Pinetrees. They were very difficult to deal with & denied our claim, even though we were out of pocket for a full day's accommodation ($510)The reason being did have a bed on the night in question which was provided by QANTASLINK ( who were outstanding in this situation) We fully understood the likelihood of the flight cancellation when we booked but did believe that we were covered by the insurance. We did however miss out on a full day on the island which would have included all meals,in exchange for lost time in an airport terminal,a night at Tempe & at 4.45am wake up call for the next days attempt.Eventually the company paid PART ONLY of the amount lost, after a lengthy & unpleasant process. We would have been better off uninsured by the time we paid the excess.

A very special place. The upper management staff are attentive and know everyone by name. The meals (included) were a fine dining experience and include a delectable dessert bar. They often had drinks and canapés at the boat shed across the road where guests mingled. One of those rare places that can be enjoyed by both adults and children.

We have followed in my parents footsteps in finding Lord Howe a heaven on earth! Pinetrees is in an ideal location - a few steps from the lagoon & walking distance from both ends of the island (trust me, as a non bike rider I've walked the length & breadth of the island!) The accommodation, although not luxurious, is clean & more than adequate. With a place like Lord Howe, why would you spend time in your room? The staff are very friendly & totally professional. The food is plentiful and absolutely delicious- I think it just keeps getting better! Dani & Luke have done an awesome job of keeping the family business feeling just like that, while updating rooms, gardens and common areas. When owners of other lodges choose to spend Christmas at Pinetrees, that says a lot! We'll be back!

Room Tip: We've previously stayed under the pines and really liked the rooms. Due to late booking this tim...

Beautiful beaches and scenery, abundant bird and sea life, little traffic, virtually no mobile phone or internet coverage, don't lock your doors but the resort offers great food, friendly service and comfortable accommodation.

Room Tip: Worth taking the garden cottage option as the standard rooms are relatively small

Recently returned from Lord Howe and our stay at Pinetrees was an absolute delight. The staff were absolutely beautiful, attentive, sharing and professional at all times. Congratulations to Danielle and the whole team. The kitchen staff were culinary magicians, the food fresh and at most times simply magnificent.
Accommodation is a little 70's but you spend little time in your room regardless, just too many things to see and explore, great base for the entire island, hire a bike and ride everywhere, it's the only way to go.
The Boatshed is where you meet prior to dinner sharing the days events over a cool one from the fully stocked self help fridge, just leave your name and room number on the stock list, pay later.
Security is not a problem because there is no need for it, we'd often go out for our day trips leave iPads, phones etc on bedside drawers, doors wide open as there is no keys issued upon check-in and all is as left on our return, amazing feeling of honesty, safety and security all over the island and all resorts the same.
Even after our flight was cancelled Dani arranged for us and our friends to stay in her original family home for the night which was very generous. Thank you.
We'll be back.

Room Tip: Rooms similar throughout, it is the oldest resort on the island run by same family, so you are just...
