“Amazing trip and stay on Lord Howe”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

I can not begin to explain just how wonderful Arajilla is! We had a 5 night break over Easter and from the time we were greeted off the plane to the time we were dropped off at the airport for our departing flight, we were treated like family! The staff are incredibly welcoming, friendly and are able to predict every need that you have. The food was absolutely wonderful, from the breakfast buffet, packed daily lunches and fabulous 3 course dinners that always included local seafood and produce. The spa at the resort is a real treat too and Elle even managed to get feeling back in my muscles after the various day treks we had been doing.
I can not recommend Arajilla enough and I only hope that one day I will get the chance to return.

Room Tip: Kentia suite is lovely

Dear Joby_1972,

Wow! Thank you for your excellent review. Getting feedback like that certainly puts a spring in our step. Your kind words have inspired the team to keep up their efforts to make our guests stay at Arajilla as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

It’s brilliant to read you used Arajilla as your base camp to strike out and explore Lord Howe Island. We often enjoy the day trek around the Island – always something new to see, even after 25 years!

We are so lucky to have such great, fresh local produce on Lord Howe Island to use in our kitchen. Our chef does an amazing job too of course.

We really hope to see you again at Arajilla!

Kind Regards,

Bill & Janne Shead

Four of us - two couples - had a lovely three nights at Arajilla. The hospitality and welcome from all at Arajilla was perfect and the food was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble. We did not want for anything - the only regret was a few more days would have been fantastic. We were very fortunate to have excellent weather, so much so there was not enough wind to lift our plane off with our luggage - so had to wait for the luggage for two days. Lord Howe Island is so beautiful, calm and peaceful - we hope that this perefection and simplicity is never spoilt. Arajilla however brings a very high level of comfort and tanquillity to the experience and is so close to everything. Thank you Arajilla for a beautiful experience.

Dear wendyj157,

Thank you for taking the time to write us such a lovely review.

Our team work very hard to ensure your stay with Arajilla is as close to perfection as possible. We’re sorry that you experience problems with your baggage with the Qantas regional flights – but not a bad comprise for such amazing weather, we’re sure you’ll agree.

We are so glad you got to experience the island the way it should be – tranquil and peaceful.

We look forward to welcoming you and you friends back to Arajilla soon.

Kind Regards,

From the time Arajilla staff met the plane to the end of our 7 day stay the service was excellent. Rooms are nestled in the palm forest, just a short walk to Old Settlement beach, a good spot to swim with the turtles. The snorkling is safe and plenty of coral. The chef prepares great meals. The breakfast chef is also an outstanding photographer, very reasonable print prices. Ask for a BBQ lunch and staff will drive you to a secluded location. BBQs everywhere. Top spot!

The service is excellent, all the staff are very helpful ( most everyone on entire Island is helpful!) Dinner was good each night.. Good breakfast each morning.. One does not really spend much time, in the resort as there is lots to do on island.. There are no coastal views from the rooms, all , rooms look onto tropical Forrest. Be prepared for very very slow wifi! It does exist, but is not even 56kb level for guests..

Dear Markqn1,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay.

Our staff are very pleased to hear that they could help to make your stay as relaxing as possible.

The restaurant is a key feature of Arajilla and our guests enjoy the fresh cuisine and delicious choices for each meal.

Our rooms are idyllically situated beneath canopies of Banyan trees and the secluded Old Settlement Beach is only moments away if you need a water and sand fix!

The island's internet access is via satelite which can make the slow connection. This problem will only be fixed with the roll out of Australia's NBN. In the meantime we hope all our guests enjoy a rare break from technology and some real time out.

Thank you again for taking the time to make a review.

Kind Regards,
Emma

I have just spent 3 nights at Arajilla as part of a group of 6. We flew from Auckland via Sydney to Lord Howe Island to arrive at wonderland. We were greeted by 2 staff from the Lodge who drove the short distance to the lodge - set amongst the tropical vegetation - to arrive at wonderland. Our room was spotlessly clean, an extremely comfortable bed with 2 fans for additional ventilation. Really great not to rely on air conditioning.
The meals prepared by the Chef were excellent, tasty and attractively presented.
The lodge staff provided considerable assistance in arranging all activities.
A minor concern - but worth mentioning - is there an Owner or a Manager? If there was an Owner / Manager one was never seen. Is this a socialist lodge?

Dear Richard K,

Thank you kindly for taking the time to write a review. Great to hear you and your group enjoyed your stay, especially as you travelled so far. You have made a perfect description of the island and Arajilla - a wonderland indeed!

That you didn’t perceive managers is testimony to our dedicated and loyal staff. The owners were indeed away on the mainland organising next winter’s improvements program!

We look forward to welcoming you back to the island one day.

Kind regards,
Emma

My husband & I stayed for 7 nights in a Banyan suite and had one of the most relaxing & enjoyable weeks we've experienced. Lord Howe is a pristine and paradisiacal location in itself and Arajilla Retreat compliments and enhances the beauty of this island. The rooms & walkways are nestled in amongst the palms & trees & the main dining area is open to the surrounds & is very inviting. From the moment we arrived we wanted for nothing and any request we had was happily & efficiently responded to by one of the excellent team of staff. We were on a babymoon but also there to enjoy what the island had to offer such as diving, hiking, snorkeling etc so were often on different time schedules (due to me being pregnant & unable to dive) for meals which was accommodated for seamlessly by the staff. The rooms were beautifully serviced each day (conveniently while we were at breakfast), the meals were delicious, were tailored to our dietary requests & were very generous portions. I highly recommend having a treatment at the on-site Ayurvedic Day Spa. The Abhyanga massage was excellent and a great way to soothe away stresses and relax into our stay. I also had the rose foot ritual, a facial & one-on-one yoga session - all of which were wonderful. I tried another Spa on the island but was greatly dissapointed by standard of the treatment, the standard at Arajilla was very high & the therapists were professional and had a great amount of knowledge and experience.

Arajilla had it all, great location, beautiful rooms, deliciously decadent food & an excellent day spa. But what made Arajilla so unforgettable to us was the service provided by the staff. They were all so helpful, lovely and genuinely happy to make your holiday special.

Just returned from 5 nights at Arajilla and cannot say a bad word about this lovely retreat. From the friendly airport pick up to the lovely clean rooms and the location. Yes this is expected from a 4 plus retreat however it is the people that make this place what it is. The staff were always there with a smile, not a false "must be nice smile" but that genuine really caring nature and whilst the property was upper scale and superb service the ambience was not aloof but very down to earth, approachable all a result of the friendly helpful staff thanks Claire, Kate, Rebecca and Rochelle. The food was superb and I loved every mouthful. A menu that changed each night with an emphasis on seafood and offered a choice of 2 entree, main and dessert. Whilst I savoured every mouthful my husband is a very plain food eater and not a fan of seafood or spice no problem the team said as chef Dennis consulted with my husband and turned normal (I say plain !) food into mouth watering dishes worthy to grace the tables of any fine dining establishment. The location of this retreat is ideal having privacy with beautiful garden surrounds yet easy access to all the sites as bikes and helmets are provided as are snorkel gear and flippers. We would have no hesitation in returning to this retreat should we be back on Lord Howe and again would like to thank the team for making our stay so memorable.
