Unfortunately we had a big cloud hanging over Mt Gower and the ground was very wet underfoot but I thoroughly enjoyed this climb - I couldn't really class it as a walk. I'm not a huge bush walker but I'd suggest you do need to be relatively fit for this - 4 hours up and 4 hours down - quite slippery both ways and tougher than I was expecting. I would suggest walking boots rather than trainers. Despite the lack of views the mountain in cloud was beautiful and interesting.

This is not quite a walk to the summit, more of a climb - it is very demanding, there are 16 ropes to pull yourself up on, but the vegetation in the mist forest is worth the climb. The views from the summit 875m are out of this world - a tough climb down if you are in your late 60's!!! though young ones run this mountain in 4 hrs !! allow a good 8 hours we took 12 !!

You really do need to be physically fit for this walk (climb) and strong enough to pull yourself up the many ropes. A fear of heights is definitely not required. Fortunately Dean will put your mind at ease on the Wednesday trip and probably make sure you get back safe and sound. Thanks to Dean for helping us gain a certificate for the "MT Gower Climb".

Ok, so when they say this is class 5 they are serious! The return trek is 14kilometers, mostly climbing up/over hills with moments of sheer terror. However when you complete the walk the views are worth it, simply breathtaking.

Our guide was Jack Shick, his knowledge and support made this one of the best adventures I have ever undertaken. I will remember this for a long time!

You will require a moderate level of fitness and leave your fear of heights at the bottom of the mountain!

Great walk!

We were ultra lucky on the weather front to have a perfect day - so spectacular views. It is quite a physical ascent & descent so you need to be reasonably fit. Dean (our excellent guide) set quite a fast pace because of the long day & reduced daylight hours. Apart from a few resting stops everyone kept up & down. A magic shangrila especially near the summit with the large number of endemic plants found nowhere else on the planet. A highlight of visiting LHI!
