“Best situated and so peaceful”

I can't wait to return to Somerset and Lord Howe Island again. Visited with my retired folks and had a fantastic time.

Stayed in the 3 bedroom for the larger kitchen which was well equipped. Apartment was quiet, comfortable and clean with beautiful palms adding to the serenity.

Staff were all warm, funny and friendly with lifts always given to dinner. Phone on site in the quiet transit lounge.

Short walk to cafes, grocery store, bikes and various beaches.

We all can't wait to return again and are terribly envious of the beautiful lives the lovely Islanders lead.

We have just spent a week in the 3-bed apartment at Somerset and everything was excellent. Our group was 4 adults and an infant and there was plenty of space, including room to play. The bedrooms were comfortable and the kitchen particularly spacious with a full-size oven. The bathroom has a shower but the staff provided a bath, high chair, cot and stroller for our grandson. We had every bit of help we required from booking to airport transfers from very friendly staff. Somerset is well-located and in a very well presented tropical setting. Thanks for a perfect holiday

My partner, 15 year old daughter and I just returned from an 8 day stay at Somerset Apartments and we couldn't be happier from that experience. Our only regret is not staying longer!

The units were very clean, we'll equipped with everything we could need and staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Testament to the locals, whom were all lovely.

A great holiday and we will be returning next April! If you are considering staying there I would book it before too many people find out about this amazing place and then you miss out.

Room Tip: Take food with you, it can be quite expensive on the island.

We went to Lord Howe in the off season - mid year - when there were only 100 visitors on the island, so the apartments had few people in them. As the title suggests - this was a very good central location - and you did not have to walk or cycle up a steep road to get home! It was close to beaches, town and restaurants. The surroundings of the rooms were very tropical and nice. The room was reasonably basic - with a small TV up high and a single bed serving as a lounge (not good on the back!) there were 2 cane chairs - but not really suitable. Nice bedroom - looking out on gardens and trees. It was cool and wet when we were there - and we had to ask for a fan heater. Apparently if all rooms had heaters and used them at the same time it would be a problem. There were electric blankets for the beds. Management staff were very helpful - although we did get a "telling off" by one person for putting our bikes on the front verandah out of the rain. There was a microwave and you could ask for an electric frypan - our attempts at cooking pasta in the microwave did not work well - so we ate out most nights. Great restaurant food - with some closed for the off season. All in all a good stay.

Arrived on Lord Howe Island on the 4th June 2013.
Spent seven lovely days at Somerset apartments. The accommodation was very good. The beds comfortable. Kitchen had all that was needed. The TV reception adequate. Gai and Rebecca were both lovely girls and helpful at all times. The weather was very kind to us with not too much wind or rain. Thank you for everything.
The food at the restaurants was superb. and the tours very interesting. A lovely island to visit.

The Somerset was very good value for money. Very good location to Store/Post Office and Anchorage restaurant. The dbl bed was very comfortable, the kitchen has good cooking facilities with Cups/pates/saucer/tumblers/cutlery/toaster/fridge and a TV that picks up Channel 9 in Alice Springs plus Abc and SBS. The grounds and gardens are beautifully landscaped. The office is only manned about 4 hrs a day. There is a transit lounge for guests checking out and waiting for their flights. However on our last day, the Somerset waivered the 10.00am checkout and offered us additional time until 13.00pm, then took us to the Airport.

Visitors travelling to LHI in winter are warned that weather conditions are very unpredictable causing the Airport to be closed for at least two days. There was one incoming flight that had to divert back to Sydney as the Qantas plane was on final approach, so visitors are advised to take out travel insurance to compensate for delays. These delays can be a regular occurrence.

Room Tip: For families there are two bedroom appartments with very good amenities.

We spent eight nights here in April 2013. It was a night longer than planned as the airport was closed due to severe winds across the airport. The accommodation is good, clean and comfortable. The apartments are in the centre of the island, on the flat and close to what is considered the CBD of the island. It is very handy to the Lagoon and Neds Beach. The accommodation is self catering so you need to go prepared to cook your own meals or book early and eat out at local restaurants. Food is much more expensive than in either New Zealand or Australia.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are similar, but some do have more light than others, depending on what you li...
