“Wonderful stay,highly recommend”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

We stayed four nights here and four nights at Salt resort in march and it was wonderful. Bale is a more modern resort, more tranquil than Salt but not as child friendly. We travelled with 3 yo and 7 month old.
The food both room service, although exy, and restaurant breakfast was great. The joy of bale is having Brekkie to your room and it is included in the price, this was good as dining each morning at restaurant can be a bit much.

All of the pools are great, especially the lagoon pool in salt which you have access to when staying at Bale. The bale reception area is gorgeous.

The staff are professional and friendly.

Some great restaurant near. Special mention of Bellini Italian, wonderful for take away or dining in.

The park and walking tracks are great too.

We booked a 1 bedroom spa suite but were upgraded to a 2 bedroom. It had a beautiful kitchen which was well equipped. The ensuite was modern and trendy. The unit had everything you could want for a holiday. Unfortunately when we were there it was pouring down rain so we didn't get to use any of the facilities but there is a lovely pool area and the pool at the adjoining Peppers Salt was fantastic for kids. A short walk across the road there were restaurants, grocery shop, hotel, ice cream shop which was very convenient as you have to drive to get to Kingscliff. There is not much in walking distance however you wouldn't really want to leave the resort. Breakfast was very nice with a good selection but extremely busy.

We stayed in an Ocean View Penthouse and at first glance it was great accommodation.
We had organised transfers through the hotel and were told when questioned that we would not be able to find a cheaper transfer than $120 from Coolangatta Airport (the maxi taxi was $70 back to the airport). The transfer was 45 mins late. He only knew to come and pick us up once we rang him. He was helpful though and stopped at the local Woolworths on the way through town, which was lucky as it's a 30-40 minute walk in to town.
Once we arrived at the Bale we were told the two rooms we had booked in the same building (using the same lift) were not actually in the same building and we would have to wait two hours for another room to be cleaned so we went with the separate rooms. We asked for keys that would allow access to both lifts and both rooms - none of which worked.
We were offered only one luggage trolley(two rooms & ten people) and dragged our own luggage to the rooms.
We were met in the room by a bottle of champagne and a cheese platter which was a nice touch.
The shower heads were useless in the non-main bedrooms.
There were four televisions and four remotes - only one of the remotes worked on all four televisions which was very irritating.
The doors all rattled - all the time. I am sure, regardless of the current extreme weather conditions that due to being directly near the beach wind isn't rare here. We spent a few minutes each evening fitting paper in the doorjams before bed to avoid the rattle.
The sheets on the beds didn't fit the bed size and the mattress was exposed by about a foot at the bottom of the bed.
The breakfast during the week was OK at the Seasons Restaurant (which claims to be 5 star - and isn't) the weekends, which is when the hotels become very busy was not great).
During the week we pretty much had the bale pool to ourselves which was lovely. Once the weekenders arrived it was clear that the pool did not fit the hotel's capacity and there were not enough lounges available.
The front reception was never attended, until the weekend.
When all of the above was raised we received a very well rehearsed, 'management 101' response from the manager.

All in all, it is a nice enough hotel although, for $700 a night, it left a lot to be desired.

I booked a three bedroom spa penthouse for the weekend for hubby and I and our now adult children. After having spent many wonderful holidays at Peppers @ SALT, including our daughter's beautiful wedding, we booked Bale for a special birthday celebration. We were a bit disappointed, having spent more than $700 per night for this accommodation to find the unit furnishings a bit tired, with the modular lounge quite marked, and missing a foot which made it uncomfortably uneven to sit on. The apartment has two levels... the lower is the main living and bedrooms, the upper level has outdoor living and the private jacuzzi. This upper level usually has a 'sail' cover which provides some shelter from the elements. We were advised upon arrival that the sail had been 'blown off' during the January storms and had not been replaced. Our visit was early March. We had a wet weekend (not cold, just wet) but we were still expecting to use the jacuzzi however we were unable to take even a towel to the upper level as there was NO shelter provided and the rain was steady and heavy enough to sting so it made for an unpleasant experience. We were unable to use the jacuzzi.

It seemed that there was also a bit of a problem with the drainage on the main level balcony. As stated, we had quite a wet weekend which of course can't be helped. However, the water did not drain away as it should and formed quite a lagoon approx 5cm in depth. We did try to sweep the water away when the rain eased, however, it was impossible as the drain appeared to be blocked and it soon backed up again. Impossible to use the balcony.

We also experienced some issues with both check-in and check-out. Our accommodation included breakfast daily, but when we arrived at the restaurant the first morning we were asked to go and speak with reception as we were not checked in on their computer. Bale staff advised that indeed we had not been 'checked in' to the system properly when we arrived at the resort, and we had to request that they contact the restaurant to allow our daily breakfast etc and arrange to have our apartment added to the roster for daily room servicing etc.

When it came to check-out, I went to the Bale foyer but found a note to say that the office was unattended and I should check-out at the Peppers reception. While this was not really an issue, there was quite a line of guests at the Peppers reception. This took quite some time. Staff were very nice but our account included 'room service' meals that we had not ordered! I asked to see the signed receipts to identify what the charges actually were, and it was discovered that they were unsigned. They were removed from the account after I insisted that we did NOT order these meals, but it was quite a slow process. Shows that you need to really CHECK ACCOUNTS!

The views from the Bale oceanfront apartments are beautiful but we really did feel a bit let down by the service and lack of upkeep at this visit. When spending a fairly large sum on this type of accommodation, the expectation is for a top notch experience. Our experience of Peppers Bale was not up to the standard we had expected.

I Loved staying here. We booked a one bedroom and requested ocean view. We were given a 2 bedroom park view but due to the aspect of the apartment, we certainly had ocean views as well. The accommodation was excellent with everything you could want included except it only had hard wired internet (Internet was also included in room rate). My laptop doesn't have an Ethernet connection! Neither does my smart phone or my tablet! So only option was to use the wifi available in the lounge/pool area. This would have been fine except that it was so slow it took 10 minutes (no joke) to download the Herald! There is an easy fix for this - buy half a dozen wifi modems guests could use if they don't have Ethernet connectivity or prefer wifi. Otherwise, breakfast was very good (restaurant a little noisy due to decor though), and nice touches like commercial Nespresso machine with milk frother in the lounge/pool area. Beach was closed the entire time we were there due to after effects of a tropical cyclone. It's very exposed (no headlands or water breaks) and probably prone to this. The resort was what you would expect from 5 star accommodation. I liked it alot!

Room Tip: 3rd floor had the best beach views

We have stayed at both Bale and Salt in their 2 bedroom suites. If you like a space, don't mind spending the extra $$ the bale is great because it is a proper 1/2/3 bedroom apartment so you get more space to stretch about and the furnitures/ fittings are of relatively high standard.
The only annoying thing is it shares its amenities with Salt which is across the road. Therefore, it is less convenient from this point of view. Otherwise, great accommodation!
When we stayed at Bale, we had the company of another family who stayed at Salt but it worked out well, as we had ordered take away dinner everynite and all ate at our apartment, given the space it was possible. It was more relaxing for the kids too as they could run about and play.
