“No water view, noisy room and lumby bed, but breakfast and staff are great.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2009

We booked direct from the hotel website. I was disappointed that we didn't get a water view as the website seemed to indicate that we would. Our room on the first floor overlooked the street and is above the car park. The was water view from the far end of the balconey. The bed was lumpy and the lock on the bathroom door didn't work, surprising since the property is new. The noise from other guests could be heard easily at times, although noise from the trainline close by was not heard. At 8am, someone was routinely visiting the other rooms on our floor and as the doors close quickly the banging or doors is what I awoke to on Sunday. The TV reception for channel 9 was poor. On the plus side, the staff are very professional, helpful and knowledgable. I don't think they could improve in that area. We tried both resturants with good experiences in each. The Thai place is good, noisy but friendly and the food is of a good standard. The buffet breakfast (included in price) was a real feature. Fresh and plentiful with a good range and good quality.

We stopped here on our way back from Melbourne & booked on Wotif. Our room was upgraded on arrival. The room was lovely with lots of space. Large bathroom & shower too. We had room service & the food was lovely & fresh. Breakfast the next morning was anice surprise. We were expecting cereal & toast so the full cooked breakfast buffet was a great start to the day. Everything from bacon & eggs to danish & assorted breads for toasting again it was all fresh & hot. Looking forward to our next trip to Kiama & the Sebel.

Stayed at this 4.5* motel for a night in June 2009. The room was very nice with a bath, dvd player, austar, small tv and free underground parking. Cost $159 with wotif and included a free breakfast and 11am checkout. But there was some train noise and I was staying in a room that had a public courtyard by the window and looked directly out to a nearby restaurant so the only way to have privacy was to close the blinds all the time so there was no natural light. The heater and bathroom fan were also much noisier than most motels I've stayed at. Overall, quite nice but would probably try somewhere else next time.

The hotel looks nice and is in a great location, on the harbourside as the name suggests. Our room was ground floor opposite the hotel bar which was a shame as we could hear the music and talking until 11pm when it closed. After that we could just hear the talking as people stood outside. Ask for a room in the same block as reception (the rooms are spread over 2 buildings) if booking here. There were no robes in the room and no doona on the bed- we did ask for robes but they don't supply them. The bed was made up with a sheet, blanket and another sheet on top- odd and not that warm, we had to use the spare blanket. The in room movie system was suffering from some kind of interference so watching a movie was not enjoyable. A call to reception did ensure that someone came to look at it- unfortunately, that is all they did. They were unable to remedy the fault. The glasses in the room were dusty as were the blinds- I was expecting better from the sebel. There was no form in the room (as promised in their literature) to give feedback and when checking out we weren't asked if we had enjoyed our stay etc. Kiama is a beautiful place to visit but don't expect anything special from this hotel.

We stayed at the Sebel when our camping plans came unstuck and ended up at the Sebel (as you do!), the price was ok, but we weren't in any position to bargain. The rooms were suprisingly large with a decent kitchen area, very nice decor and a good location with only a smidge of a stroll to the main streets of Kiama. We ate at the Blue Diamond (bistro thing attached) which was fine for a pub/pizza kind of place. The hotel is right by a main railway line and even though the windows were soundproof you still hear the trains a bit. We did hear someone walking past our window on the stones outside our room late at night and as that area was decorative and went nowhere, it made us wonder if someone was trying to break in. Kiama is a lovely place - don't miss Kendalls beach or the little blowhole nearby (not the larger fenced one), the little one goes off every wave basically and is loud and dramatic - my husband and 8 year old sat right beside it. Best coffee in town Parkview. Don't miss it!

Reception: We were upgraded from a basic room before we arrived. On arrival the staff were friendly and helpful. We were checked in before the normal check in time. There’s no porter but plenty of free off street parking. The only issue (if you can call it that) was that when we checked in there were four items missing from the mini bar. We informed reception straight away and two of the items were replaced immediately. At checkout we mentioned it again and were thanked for the advice and no fuss nor charge were made for the missing items.

Accommodation: The room looked recently renovated and apart from minor plasterboard damage on one wall, all the furnishings, carpet and bathroom were clean, tidy, well organised and free from mould and smells. The room overlooked a railway line (which runs along the side of the hotel property) but with the double glazing you could only just hear trains going past (if you didn’t know about the train line you probably wouldn’t even notice what it was). It was well insulated from the noise. The bed was very comfortable, firm but not hard. Hot water in the shower was hot and constant and a decent amount of pressure. Although it fronts onto the harbour, there is a road and a park before the actual water, so not sure I’d pay the extra for a harbour view room.

Other: We didn’t eat at the hotel but there were plenty of options available. We instead decided to walk around the small harbour/bay and eat in Cargo's on the Wharf, which is a beautiful restaurant overlooking the harbour with some fantastic food. A very unexpected find in a town of this size. I can really recommend it as a great place to enjoy some fine food, a great bottle of wine and be in a location which is only a stones throw to the Blow Hole and lighthouse, to walk off the calories.
The hotel is very close to town, so you could access the main street of town very easily. It is set a little way up a small hill so would require a bit of a push for a wheelchair but you could negotiate the hotel easily enough.

Just got back from our weekend in kiama, what can I say, the place is just is the best kept secret on the NSW coast, the people are just wonderful and the surf beaches rate up there with the best of them, we stayed at the Sebel Harbour side and for a 4.5 star hotel it exceeded our expectation, the decor was fresh and new, clean, bed was a split king but the reception staff quickly supplied a cover for the bed and that fixed the issue, staff just so friendly nothing is a problem and they do everything with a smile ). The blue diamond bar is a “diamond” great food, great music “SOUNDS ON SUNDAY” in the court yard is worth staying for on Sunday and they even give you a late checkout for $50 until 6pm.

They have just opened their 1871 restaurant, food fantastic service very good what more can i say, If you are going down this way, and I suggest you do, you will not be disappointed at the Sebel or kiama
