Stayed in a superior balcony room in June 2013 using a voucher and this is what we experienced:
- Room size is very large - much larger than your average hotel room.
- Whilst the hotel location is opposite the beach, don't expect any beachviews from an of the balcony rooms as they said there were none. Have attached a picture of a glimpse of the beach from our balcony on the second floor.
- Room is very quiet - you don't hear your neighbours, only occasional people passing through the corridor outside.
- The King bed is UNBELIEVEABLY COMFORTABLE!!! One of, if not the BEST BED I have ever slept on in a hotel!!! The sheets are so incredibly soft and the doona is just right - not too warm and not too cold, even in winter.
- The air conditioner is NOISY but thankfully we didn't need to have it on overnight as the temperature was just right for an excellent nights sleep.
- Bathroom size is very large with large shower. No bath though. Also we wondered whether it was created for giants, since the shower shelf was placed very high up, almost higher than my head!
- Showercap provided is very thin and flimsy - mine broke straight away after opening - maybe it has to do with it not being used for a long time? Anyway we got a replacement which was also thin and flimsy but at least served its purpose for the nights we were there.
- Despite being rated 4.5 stars - there is NO GYM?? We were thinking the Sebel brand would have one being rated this high, but nope, no gym which was a bit disappointing.
- Our package included a $40 meal voucher which we used for dinner in the Blue Diamond Bar & Bistro. This is basically just a pub and the people who come there can be very loud and noisy! Certainly don't expect any fine dining here! Nevertheless we had the Kiama pizza (seafood) which was not bad although the description included "smoked oysters" which we note was missing from the pizza. We also had a salad that had beetroot, feta and orange which was actually quite good and which we enjoyed. The Bar area does have nice waterviews to enjoy your food, and on Friday nights there seemed to be a live duo band which was quite nice to enjoy (above the crowd!)
- The hotel states there is FREE internet in the room - this is via a blue Ethernet cable NOT WIFI, so beware of this as most people these days use wifi... I think otherwise there is a charge for wifi in the lobby.
- The TV seems to still be on Analogue? It didn't seem to have very clear reception nevertheless some channels were ok to watch. Note the TV has a USB point however when we tried to stick in our USB to watch our movies on it, it didn't do anything.
- Corridors outside the room are not heated, so can be quite cold when walking through but I guess that's probably a good thing so people don't get too comfy and hang around all day outside(!)
- Buffet breakfast was ok - your usual cereals, hot food and pastries. It was adequate though nothing special.
- Hotel is within walking distance of the train station which makes a weekend away quite possible (which is what we did!) We stayed for the monthly seaside Kiama markets on the 3rd Sunday of the month and this was definitely worth it! Took us 3 hours to get through all the stalls and ended up buying a lot more than anticipated! So if you're going to this, make sure you bring an extra bag or two for the goodies at this market! Only thing it lacked was hot food - there seemed to only be a couple of stalls doing sausage sizzles which didn't seem all that interesting...
- Note also the hotel charges 1.5% surcharge on ALL credit card payments, which seems somewhat odd for a 4.5 star hotel and esp since most people settle their bills using a credit card these days I would think...
Overall, for what we paid, it was definitely worth the deal - just have to be mindful of the fine print and know what to expect when you get there!

We paid extra to have a room with a balcony. This was provided but was on ground level facing a road with no view except the upward slope to the road. A room with this type of balcony should not incur any extra cost, the expectation was water or district views. The hotel was very nice and the breakfast was great with plenty of choices

We arrived at the Sebel early and was advised that we had an upgraded room and it was ready. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our room was spacious, clean and the bed was so very comfortable. The windows and sliding door were double glazed so we didn't hear any outside noise at all. The buffet breakfast was plentiful and I love the pancake maker. The hotel is central to many restaurants, cafes, boutiques and of course the harbour. This is a lovely modern hotel and I would definitely stay here again. A big thumbs up!!

Due to last min decision not many choices at this region. Chose this one without much consideration or checking... Room was plain yet clean, but as small as $250+ room in sydney CBD. Not much amenities also. Maybe this could be standard in this region, but it is definitely pricy.
