“Probably down play the "World Famous" bit..”
Reviewed July 22, 2012

Drawn in by the name alone, we should have crossed the road. $50 for two serves of Fish and Chips and a few extra bits and pieces was a bit steep for over battered food that had been fried in oil that could use a change.
Besides that, the staff were friendly, the shop was clean and they certainly knew their fish. Would I eat there again?? Maybe, it could have been an off day.
The view to the harbour certainly brightens up your meal, but better food and better views are just a walk away..

“Lost the plot in their own delusion of themselves.”
Reviewed July 13, 2012

Tuckers first law of self promotion states.... any chippy claiming world famous status is pulling its own chain.
The offering here is no better than average, so if you want world famous average Fish N Chips you know what to do.

“The best fish and chips I've eaten in Australia”
Reviewed June 8, 2012 via mobile

My boyfriend and I ate here on 3 June 2012 and thought it was the best fish and chips we've eaten in Australia. The guy behind the counter was really helpful telling us about the different fish available and where it was from and his recommendation of kingfish was spot on and delicious. The chips and chicken gravy were amazing too, the whole meal was fantastic. Its more expensive than the place opposite but worth every cent. I haven't read the bad reviews but think they must have got the wrong place as this is 5/5 fish and chips. Highly recommended.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed June 1, 2012

The name is really overstating things. We had a fair wait for our food, and found the fish was very greasy, and the chips were greasy and soggy. Granted, it was on a very busy Saturday, so maybe they would do better at a quieter time, with hotter oil, but we were disappointed.

“Long wait for very average food”
Reviewed April 19, 2012

I was reading the reviews on this site whilst waiting for our food and was hoping that the reviews were not true! But sadly, most of the comments here were what we experienced.
The wait was about 20 minutes and there were not many customers around before us so why did it take so long? Considering our local fish and chip shop back home is always busy and only takes around 10 minutes?
We took the food back to our holiday house just 5 minutes away and when I opened the paper bags, the chips were already soggy. Tasted one and it was tasteless and the oil did not taste pleasant.
The grilled king fish was probably the best of the lot. Nicely cooked and tasty.

The battered fish (hoki and king) was atrocious. The fish was all soggy inside the batter and I did not know if it was the batter which was not cooked properly..checked again, no , it was fish that was soggy!

I am not sure why they could get it so wrong considering their claims of being "World Famous" - and they are in a seaside town.
The price was also very expensive - this fish and chip lunch cost a lot more than our Chinese dinner the night before (which was a lot nicer too)

It may be true that they just need the one time customers and don't care if you return or not.
Disappointing indeed.
