They messed up our reservation, even though the place was only about two-thirds full. Brisk service invited us to take sparkling mineral water - yes please. More service invited us to choose wine - yes please. We then waited and waited and waited .... After 20 minutes, I asked where our water was. After half an hour, I asked where was our wine, having seen a couple who arrived way after us enjoying their wine. Eventually, we received some service.

Having ordered our starters and mains, we then waited for the food - and waited and waited.... I watched as the couple who had got their wine before us, also got their food before us. Then, a table of 14 people (obviously locals), who had ordered a long time after us, received their food.

Eventually we were served some food. Oh, dear. Tiny queen scallops for the starter had been disgracefully overcooked. They were like rubber balls. Blue eyed cod for the main was also dry and overcooked. Dismal seafood.

On top of these disasters, the atmosphere was dreadful. The noise was so strident, ear-shatteringly loud and oppressive that it was actually physically uncomfortable and unpleasant.

Our waitress did not seem to care but at least as we were leaving, perhaps having recognised our distress, said that maybe they might get things right next time. I'm afraid there will not be a next time! Perhaps if you are local you may receive better service, but why bother when the cooking is of such a low standard. Fish was cooked far better at the Huskisson Pub Bistro.

We had dinner in the Waterhouse. We were early. So it was not crowded. Service was reasonable.
The food was of a very high standard and hard to fault. They have some outstanding wine available by the glass.
I think this is the best food in Huskisson and has price tag to match.

Went to Waterhouse in great anticipation with 2 friends from Sydney. We were sat under a speaker playing loud rock n roll 60's music. We could not talk without yelling. Asked numerous times for the music to be turned down with staff saying "ok" but it wasn't turned down. Finally went up to the manager and asked. Told "we cannot turn it down because people sititng outside need to hear it". Requested that maybe they could change the music to something more appropriate to dining. Told "no, we have no control over what is played and we can't change the music" WHAT! Requested that we could please move tables which we did. No apologies offered. Service was slow, food overpriced, staff indifferent. Poor old couple next to us had to leave as they waited over 1 hour for entree. We will not be back!

We had booked a specific table in one corner of the restaurant but received a 'phone call to say that there was a large party booked in and therefore we could have the table in the opposite corner. A little strange but at least they had taken the trouble to call. However, when we arrived someone else was sitting in the table that had replaced the original booking. When we questioned this there was just a shrug and we were directed elsewhere. Our instincts should have prompted us to leave but we decided to give it a try anyway.

Polite conversation was impossible because of the positioning of the tables on the other side of the louvred windows by our table. We were offered water when we arrived - it arrived 25 minutes later. Our wine didn't arrive for 30 minutes the food for 40 minutes as we watched other people being served who had arrived after us.

The most important aspect though of any restaurant is the quality of the food. Both fish dishes were overcooked. We weren't even asked how the food was at the end of the meal.

Service was poor and indifferent.

We are both 'avid food lovers' but an indulgent evening this was not.

We ate at Waterhouse for our anniversary dinner and were blown away. We live in Sydney and have eaten at many of the best restaurants there- we thought Waterhouse was better. Every course we ate was amazing and the service was fantastic (thanks to Kristy). Do yourself a favour and try waterhouse- I'm sure you won't be dissapointed.
