Owner description: Stand Up Paddling is a rapidly growing new sport. It offers fun, fitness and a fabulously scenic way to get around on the water. It is easier than it looks and almost anyone can do it. Jervis Bay Stand Up Paddle is an ASI (Academy of Surfing Instructors) accredited school, and abides by the high international standards for Stand Up Paddle schools.Anyone with enough physical fitness to take a one hour walk and with basic swimming skills can participate. You will be provided with a quality flat-water cruising board, a paddle and a rash shirt (or wetsuit in winter). You will need to bring appropriate swimwear, towel, sun block and a great sense of humour.

Mel is great, explains the basics well - went on a private tour and had the best fun! Also leave your cameras at home, she takes all the photos for you so you can concentrate on standing up straight haha!

“Awesome start to a hens!”
Reviewed February 10, 2014

Mel is an awesome instructor, her hubby Jason the perfect supporter. We came for a hens weekend and this was a fab kick start to a big weekend. They were fun, chatty, helpful, and gave us a great run out on their paddle boards. We saw some HUGE stingrays too!! HIGHLY recommend these guys!! I will def go for another session when I'm back in Jervis Bay!! Thx guys!!

“Dolphin Delight!”
Reviewed January 5, 2014

"Unbelievable" is the only word I can use to describe this experience. We have been going to Jervis Bay for over 20 years, and this is by far the best thing we have ever done! Mel is a fantastic instructor for all skill levels. The four of us (my wife 2 daughters and I) met Mel at our departure point where she was already setting up for us. the paper work took 2 minutes to fill out and we were ready for our instructions for the morning. Boy what a morning it was, the Bay was smooth as glass (it can be a bit windy sometimes causing the water to become a bit choppy) After our briefing we were out on the water and due to Mel's simple instructions we were all up and paddling straight away, we took a steady paddle around the south portion of Jervis Bay until we arrived at a gorgeous beach where we had the chance to take a little break. After a few minutes we were on our way back to the departure point, when Mel received a call that the next group had cancelled. Lucky for us as Mel asked if we wanted to have a paddle on each others boards, when we saw some dolphins heading our way, Mel joined us for a while as we watched the dolphins swim around and under us! Definitely an experience we will be talking about for years to come!! Mel thanks again for letting us spend the extra time on the boards with the dolphins.

“A Real Knee Trembler”
Reviewed December 9, 2013

When Jason explained that 95% of first-timers have no trouble getting up and staying up, we all had a momentary panic attack - what if we were part of the unfortunate 5%? Fortunately, we weren't, and in no time me and our two kids were up and paddling like pro's (that what we told ourselves!). Jason was polite enough not to comment on our wobbly knees and shaky stance as we set off, and pretty soon we were confident enough to strike the customary 'look at me' pose - paddles held high above our heads, silly grins on our faces.

We found our way to Jervis Bay Stand Up Paddle via their brochure. I left a message which Mel promptly replied to. She texted instructions on where to meet and the next day at 7AM we were away! Great equipment, great instruction, great value, plenty of care and attention. Jason knows the region, knows SUP and knows how to tailor a session to ensure everyone has a good time.

We would thoroughly recommend these guys to a whole bunch of people, it's not too physically demanding, but challenging enough that you feel like you've achieved something worthwhile. Our ages ranged from 14 to 47, I'm sure it would suit a far wider age range. A great family business, professionally run by passionate people. Just do it.

“So much fun!!!”
Reviewed November 4, 2013

Wow! What a great way to start one's day! Booked the early morning session on a day when the weather forecast predicted 4 °C in the morning so we were very concerned, but wanted to get out of our comfort zone and do it anyway. It was the right decision!
We got to the meeting point just after 7am, dressed in winter jackets, waiting in the car with full heating on. When Mel arrived she offered us wetsuits which we happily accepted but it was still weird getting undressed in such cold weather. When everyone in the group got sorted out and got their boards allocated, we got down to the beach and had a 10 minute introduction into the basics of stand up paddle boarding. The sand was so cold, we were jumping from one foot to the other, but the sun started to warm up the air so we knew we would be fine soon.
Once we got to the water we were hoping we didn't fall into the water but of course all of us did. However at that point the water was warmer than the air so it wasn't an unpleasant experience at all! And once we got the grip of the technique, we just had fun-fun-fun! :)
Mel is very nice and very-very patient. She made sure everyone was ok, let the better ones explore the secrets of this sport by themselves while helping those ones who were a bit behind. At the end of the day all of us returned to the shore with a great smile and a great experience.
In the beginning Mel said after this day we will be hooked to this sport, and she was so right! I am now looking into options around the area where I live to do it again, and even do it regularly.
Thank you so much Mel, it was one of our best experiences in Jervis Bay!
