“Iconic piece of Australiana”
Reviewed February 21, 2014

If you're travelling between Canberra and Wagga Wagga along the Hume Highway you should stop and at least take a photo of this iconic piece of Australian history. It's a good place to stop and stretch the legs, grab a coffee of cold drink and, of course, photograph the famous dog. The statue itself is not very big but it is evocative of another era and an interesting monument. Easy to reach and just off the highway it's either a quick five minute photo detour or a longer look around the whole complex and grab a bite to eat.

This little sleey town is great for a over night stopover, travelling to Vic or the snowy mountains.

“Historic stop - avoid the information centre / shop behind the statue”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

Interesting bit of Australian history - good place for the kids to run around and let off a bit of steam! Dog friendly. Owner of information centre unfriendly! For a place that tries to draw tourism attitude here is awful. Five pm everything shuts - including locking the visitor toilets! Then loudspeaker announcement about getting your cars locked in the public car park if you don't move them immediately! So much for the concept of 'stop every two hours and survive'! Need to find a much more flexible and tourist friendly approach to out of hours visitors. This is an Aussie icon which sadly someone seems to treat as their own property. Shame.
