“Luxury on the Hume Highway!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2012

I stayed at Hillview this weekend with a large group for a family reunion. The farmstay was chosen because of its great location between all travelling parties. It was only 2 hours drive from Canberra, and is quite close to Wagga. We booked all the cabins and had about 18 people staying together just for one night.
Firstly, I was pleasantly surprised at the gorgeous modern facilities and hotel-standard beds, linen and bathrooms. We used the big cabin as our common room/ meeting place because it has a very large lounge/dining/kitchen area.
At the back of the large cabin we were able to set up lots of tables and chairs to eat meals together and do art. The gardens are lovely and peaceful, and being country-folk all, we felt very at home!
Most of the beds are King-size and are very comfortable. The noise from the highway could rarely be heard, and we all slept soundly. There's a great tennis court and plenty of animals to see if that's what you're interested in. I'm not sure how much we paid for the cabins as we divided up the total price between us ($60pp), but it seemed very reasonable.
The breakfast of bacon and eggs plus cereal, toast etc was a nice touch, and the kitchens had anything we could need to make a gourmet meal (however only the big cabin has an oven).
One disadvantage is the lack of access for those who are mobility impaired. My 84 year old grandmother had difficulty navigating the steps in and out of the cabin, because they had no railings, and there are no ramps that we could see for wheelchairs.
We're looking forward to going back next year.

My husband and 2 children, aged 10 and 9 stayed in the loft house for 1 night on a trip home recently. The owners are very friendly and helpful, the house was lovely clean and had a 'homey' feel to it. The beds were amazing. One of the best I have slept on while travelling. The kids were downstairs and had their own ensuite and we had a king bed upstairs in the loft with a bathroom also. There was a microwave, stove top and 3/4 size fridge with a bbq out on the front porch for summer cooking. There was a tennis court and animals and a beautiful garden for the children to make the most of. It is good to note that this property is not actually in Gundegai but about 25 minutes after it as you are heading to Melbourne. It is very remote and if you stay here, make sure you bring provisions for dinner as it would be a bit of a drive to pop out for some food. They provided some beautiful fresh chicken eggs, free range bacon and a range of cereals, bread, spreads, juice and milk for breakfast which was lovely. My only 2 suggestions to the owners would be to include a tea towel for doing the dishes and some larger mixing bowls in the kitchen supplies, but other than this, it was a lovely place to stay.

Being city folks, staying at a farm was a foreign idea to us. In fact, I am terrified of animals and frankly, we did not know what to expect in a farmstay.
But, Hillview made a great impression with us. The lady who showed us around the farm was kind enough to allow my kid try feeding the pigs, chicken, horses herself. She even made an exception and allowed us into the fields (which was covered with pretty yellow flowers) next to our farm.
The 1-bedroom apartment was so clean and modern, my husband commented that it didn't feel like we were out in the farm at all! Hillview was also very easy to find with roadsigns indicating it's location along the Hume.
All in all, a great place to stay if you want a farmstay and a convenient stopover from Sydney to Melbourne.

We wanted a farmstay experience for two granddaughters aged 3 and 4 years. Jann and Peter were wonderful hosts and the girls had a fantastic time, feeding chickens, piglets, alpaca, shetland ponies and pigs as well as playing on electric car and swinging in the tyre swing. They didn't want to leave and neither did we. The accommodation was of a high standard and we would recommend the farmstay to anyone and will be! Thank you for a lifelong memory.

Just before Gundagai on the way to Sydney is this lovely farmstay. This pet friendly accommodation is almost new, and lovely and clean. I stayed in the lodge accommodation. More than adequate supplies for breakfast was included in the price. They are also able to provide provisions for your evening meal at an additional cost if required.

The only problem was that altough set a fair way back from the Hume Highway, there was still a fair bit of traffic noise.

Brilliant setup. We stayed in the 4 bedroom cottage, everything was supplied, linen, breakfast, fire wood. The hosts Jan and Peter were very friendly and helpful. The property is in a great location just near Gundagai, and not far from the snow fields.
Would highly recommend.

We stayed at Hillview overnight as a half way stop over with our two children and we had a lovely time. We arrived late and were greeted with a hot potato bake, steak, sausages and a lovely garden salad. It was great that we didn't have to worry about dinner and the food was very tasty and there was a lot of it. The accommodation was lovely - big beds with nice clean linen, a bathroom for each bedroom, lots of pillow choices, nice clean BBQ, a well set up kitchen and plenty of provisions for breakfast (cereal, bacon, eggs, toast, jams, juice and milk. we even had the leftover sausages from the night before on the BBQ in the morning). There was no bath for the kids in the 2 room loft apartment, but this was not a problem for us. In the morning we were greeted by about 30 piglets at our deck which our daughter just loved. Our hosts were just lovely and gave us bread to feed the ducks and chickens in the morning which was great for the kids. Overall this farmstay is a great location, clean and functional, nice inside for the adults and fun outside for the kids. We would stay at Hillview Farmstay again.
