i stayed here for 2 nights and was very disappointed with what the rooms were for $320 a night. There was no minibar - only tea and coffee with a little milk. The bedroom and bathroom were very small for what we were expecting. Also, we had to drive everywhere, to shops or cafes you cannot walk. However, the restaurant was wonderful and the staff were professional and very helpful. the pool was also amazing. I would recommend staying in Kiama/ Kiama Heights a few minutes away from Gerringong. Kiama is much much nicer with much more little cafes and shops with many beautiful cottages or apartments by the coast.

The mercure in gerringong is not 'by the sea' at all.

Room Tip: stay in Kiama not gerringong

Visiting the resort, I found all the stairwells did not have any lighting when using the stairs at night.
It would be safer if their were lights in all stairwells. I could not see properly when going down the stairs and due to the wet weather the stairs were slippery and dark. I nearly slipped.

View from rooms is overlooking a swamp, marsh, wetlands not the sea. Disappointing and feel it is overpriced for the location. Wear your walking shoes if you want to go to the beach. Take a backpack. It is overpriced for the location.

Room Tip: Roads works going on at that time, can't be helped. Shading over pool area, re- skin cancer awareness, especially over children's pool area.

We stayed at the Mecure Gerringong by the Sea for two nights in early March 2013.

Overall we had a comfortable stay but we were disappointed in the quality of the hotel especially for rates that they charge. If all rooms were like ours (room 211) then the hotel is in need of some serious work.

We did like the fact that there was a kitchenette so we could cook our own meals. That was a definite plus and the fridge/freezer was large enough to store groceries.

Aesthetically we noticed the following:

- A large cut out hole in roof of the wardrobe.
- Tear in the leather lounge which was also a fold out sofa. It was not put back together properly so fell apart if you leant on the arms.
- Dent in the wall next to the bed.
- Large paint chip in bathroom.
- When the lights were turned all the way up (they had a dimmer) they flickered.
- Cupboards did not open very easily they rubbed up against the carpet as you open them.
- The spare linen was dusty so we could not use the extra blankets in the cupboards.

Apart from that it was a comfortable stay. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were a nice size and the TV had good reception.

On our first night, there was a wedding at the hotel. There are signs posted all around the hotel stating that you need to be quiet before the hours of 9am and after 9pm. We also had to sign a waiver before we could get keys to our room agreeing to this and if we did not adhere to the rules they could ask us to leave. We did not have any problems with the noise from the wedding itself until we heard them singing karaoke around 11pm. It was so loud that we could hear every word that people were singing through our rooms which made it difficult to sleep. We noticed a few other guests standing outside their rooms just shaking their heads. I did mention this to reception upon checkout however apart from an apology we were told that they could not credit us for our stay so would instead post to us an offer for a 20% discount next time we stay with them. I have noticed other guests had received a $50 credit so I'm not sure why they could not do the same for us.

There is not a single word I can say against this resort, everything was perfect.

The attention to detail is on display everywhere, from the placement of cushions on outdoor furniture, to the placement of pot plants, to the guest information board, to the 6 star resort feel to the pool, to the neatness & cleanliness of all outdoor areas........honestly I could go on & on.

Our room was modern, very spacious, clean, well laid out & had a kitchenette, although I must add it was one of the up market rooms.

All staff were fabulous & must be mind readers as they were there when we wanted them, & not when we didn't want them, who could ask for more?

The buffet breakfast was up there with the best we've had & the restaurant where it is served has such a beautiful ambience, if you stay be sure to ask about the history of the building.

Sadly it is difficult to walk into Gerringong due to the distance & the lack of footpaths, however it is a lovely village & worth a visit.

It is a "chill out" type of resort where you can sit around doing nothing if you please, in fact I would recommend it for that purpose, it is a bit in the "middle of nowhere" so don't expect a wild party time!

Cannot wait to return, it's pure bliss.
