Stayed at the hotel on the 24th january a Thursday, really pleased with my room I had a balcony 300 room. The place could use more care on there greenery, hedges front lawn etc. Dined in the restaurant that night, had lovely customer service from the head waiter or manager in charge, tall and very well spoken. It was a busy night and we were aware of that by him. The prices of the menu were a bit pricey, however the quality of the dishes were amazing, with the restaurant seemed jam packed, with the head waiter and female waitress on, did a really great job considering it was only them 2. Great wine menu and great service, mercure Gerringong you really pleased my husband and I, experience in the restaurant. An excellent stay, I will be back and spreading the word, well done.
They have just finished refurbishing their rooms and amenities, and our room was a decent size, lovely style, clean and modern. They have a nice big couch to relax and watch some TV overlooking our balcony and bushland views over the tennis court. We ate at their restaurant Bella Char - all I can say is WOW! The place is gorgeous with lovely high ceilings and a lovely cosy atmosphere, but still kid friendly with comfy couches in the middle if you just want to pop in for a drink or two. The food was absolutely amazing, easily as good (and in a lot of cases much better) as some of the best ones we have in Sydney. I had the Salmon and it was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing, and my husband had the Lamb which was mouth watering and juicy, great portion sizes. Dessert was to die for I had the Coconut Panacotta with lychees and mango...I could have had another one even though I was full...it was so yummmm! A few drinks later and we drifted back to our room extremely satisfied. They have two pools, a nice quiet one around the back for lounging around with a book, and the one out front for the kids. They also have a really nice bar area outside with comfy couches overlooking the pool. They have done the place up very nicely and the staff very very friendly and attentive. We were very happy with our stay. We will definitely be back!
I stayed here once before when it was Bellachara Boutique and was interested to see how it was as a Mercure property. Overall, there are many positives but I can't help having been really disappointed with the aspects that let it down, mostly because of what I was paying and because they are fixable issues which a professional property management group would address to keep the place looking and feeling slick.
First, the positives. I stayed in a Spa Studio on the ground floor this time (no. 208 I think). Last time I was one level up and had a view so this felt quite diifferent. But the location (no other buildings around) means I was still looking out onto a green garden, pool and trees and had a nice breeze with the sliding glass door open. So relaxing and peaceful for an afternoon of R&R. And the room was huge - felt spacious enough to actually spend some time in. The split level up into the bathroom is a good idea - adds to the sense of spaciousness. Bathroom was big, spa bath was great (very big with good jets) and the shower was also really big. All clean thank goodness. And there were tea light candles in there which was nice (but matches would help).
On the downside...When I walked in the smell hit me - old and musty. I thought I was in a smokers room. It was a good thing there was a breeze because the place really needed airing. I can't imagine why they don't do that before new guests arrive??? Then the carpet - there's a good chance that was where the smell was coming from because it looked really stained. Other small annoyances - the DVD player didn't work despite many attempts by reception. Eventually got something happening but the sound was barely audible and the playstation remote didn't reach the bed or the couch.
But, the thing that annoyed me the most given what I was paying - there was a kitchenette, which I specifically asked for, but unlike the previous room I'd stayed in, this one had no sink! So despite the fact that they supply you with cutlery, crockery, a kettle, dishwashing detergent, tea towels, knives etc the only tap was the bathroom sink. I find washing food and utensils in the bathroom to be unhygenic for a start (and really cheap for a place like that). But it was also completely impractical - they've put a 'modern' sink in the bathroom vanity which slopes down and only gets to about 5cm deep at it's deepest point. Even washing a wine glass was tricky. Made it feel a lot like a roadside motel that you've paid $70 bucks for, not a place with the word "Resort" in the title. Overall, I'll probably go back because it's a great spot and I love Gerringong, but I'll be very careful to ask more questions about the room before committing.

PS The carpet has been replaced in all guests rooms
Pleasantly surprised by the size of our room and the large leather lounge - too often the bed is the only place to sit and watch a movie. The room was well furnished, the bathroom large with quality fixture. Alas, the view was over neighbours back yards and you would really need to drive to the beach.
We dined elsewhere but had breakfast at the resort. They do need to ditch the automatic coffee and pancake machines!
Will stay here again and next time make use of the day spa and inviting looking pool - it was raining at the time of our stay.
