Second time we have stopped at CGM. It is typical many rural motels in Australia with the usual facilities. Walking distance to the Bowling Club and the Golden Sea Dragon Chinese Restaurant both just across highway (John Street) and the hotel and other eateries further north. Our room ($95) was large queen with single and small table and chairs and a two seater. Plenty of space for our luggage and extra bags. Big window looked across garden onto Edward street providing decent daylight. Rooms are arranged around a large circular driveway with swimming pool at centre, well back from the highway. We were in a room towards the back with was very quiet. Bathroom is showing its age, the shower recess provides good water flow. Management were friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: rooms towards the back may be quieter

Great 3 star accommodation. Priced appropriately at $95 per night. Perfect for long distance travellers up the Newell. Sleep quality was interrupted by a very rude couple arriving late that the owners had gone out of their way to wait up for. They copt abuse for their efforts to make them welcomed. I heard this abuse. Threatening & loud that they would give them a bad review on 'Trip Advisor'. Unfortunately these people spoil the accuracy & reputation of this site and of proprietors. The owners handled the situation very diplomatically. They were very shaken by the incident. Some people are just plain ignorant. You cross them everywhere. Are they wanting a free night??

Being regular guests of Country Gardens we are always made feel welcomed by the friendly, helpful proprietors and staff.Lovely clean, spacious rooms providing all utilities one needs for a comfortable stay. any special needs being met by the staff. The carpark provides easy car parking with room to move and a great pool with barbecue area to relax. In the evening you can always have a delicious meal at the Gunya restaurant located at the motel.Alternatively the motel is in walking distance to the club, restaurants and shopping amenities. With such pleasurable stays we wouldnt hesitate in recommending this motel to other travellers.

The toaster did not work. Had faulty, exposed electrical wires.

The air-con heater did not heat the room. No spare blankets were available and on a 0'C night we were all very cold.

The double bed was hard. The single beds were sagged in the middle.

The "kitchenette" is a bathroom vanity.

The internet did not work, and even after enquiring at the front desk and getting a password for the "new" internet hotspot, it still did not work.

The shower head was faulty and leaked, with water wasted and spraying in every direction (including up).

The kettle would not boil.

Water tasted like dirt.

The "dining room" was very small (our hallway at home is bigger and wider), with one table and four chairs. No lounge or tv is in this room. In fact, there was not one lounge in any of the rooms (pretty poor for a "family accommodation").

I couldn't possibly stay more than one night, and certainly would not recommend this motel to anybody. The only positive was that it was in walking distance to shops which is necessary when you need to get out and get food because you can't use the appliances in the motel.

We appreciate your feed back, but would like to comment on some of the issues raised. We appoligised about the toaster and it was replaced immediatley, the same kettle is still in the room and still operating, inverter split system heating was installed one week prior to your stay and is more than ample to heat the room space, beds are provide with two blankets and electric blankets, if this was insufficient more are available on request, wifi is free to the rooms and we were having problems and this has since been rectified. Also the room was never advertised, nor were you told that the room has a kitchnette, all our rooms have tea and coffee making facilities some with microwaves. Water quality is stricyly monitered by local council. We pride ourselves in the upkeep and cleanliness of our rooms and maintain a high 3.5 star rating.

In respose to issues raised I would like to clear up some points. The toaster that had some damage to the outer cord was replaced immediatly when the guest reported the fault along with our deepest appologies these things happen from time to time. All our rooms are fitted with reverse cycle ac and to state otherwise is ludicris. The unit has a television in each bedroom with austar and free to air stations. The unit is not and never has been advertised as having a kitchenette a microwave is supplied along with tea and coffee making facilities the kettle in question is still working fine. Our beds are fitted with two blankets each and a quilt along with electric blankets as well additional bankets are supplied on request. The free internet service was causing some problems to notebook users we have since fitted a booster to the system which has solved to problem.Jenny and myself have a policy here if the guest finds our property substandard for some reason we offer a full refund no feelings hurt as there is ten other motels in town possibly one of these would better suit their requirements. That said Im at a loss why a guest would choose to stay the evening and the post such a negitive review with content that is obvious to any one who inspects the unit is blatantly false. In closing our hopes are this gives future guests some reassurance that we will do our best to make their stay as pleasent as possible.Cheers Wayne
