“Wonderful receptionist”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2013

I'm writing a long overdue review from some months back so sorry it has taken so long.
The receptionist was friendly and very helpful and knowledgeable regarding local restaurants when we first checked in and everything was as you would hope but later that night we had an urgent phone call from family where one of us had to return as soon as possible.
We were lost not knowing anything of the local transport and went to reception to ask. We were given the most wonderful help and the very kind receptionist could not do enough for us - thank you so much, you made our very short stay there wonderful.
The hotel itself is good and certainly no complaints there.

We travelled from Victoria to Sydney and needed a place to stay. On route, we rang this place and found they were very courteous on the phone and oblliging. The whole place was clean and comfortable very friendly staff and we would come back on our next trip. . If you are looking for a place to stay i would highly recommend this place. It is very easy to find.

Room Tip: we stayed upstairs. i dont think it would matter where you were.

I booked this motel online and based on its location. As with all online bookings there was an element of doubt that my special request for two adjoining rooms would be met. But the staff were welcoming and had given me two rooms together as requested. The rooms here are spotlessly clean and the beds comfortable. My rooms were away from the road so there was no noise and a good sleep was had by all.
So, when I had to go back to NSW a week or so later, I booked here again. I was not disappointed.
Let’s be honest – the motel is a little old around the edges and could do with some work to spruce it up and improve the facilities a little.
But if you want a basic, comfortable, efficient and friendly stay - in reasonable proximity to good places to eat, I would recommend the Colonial

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the road.

We were arriving at Sydney airport at 8.30pm and were looking for somewhere to stay in the direction of Canberra just to get us out of the city but not too long a drive. We phoned and booked the motel the night before (9.00pm). We made the booking by phone rather then the Internet to make sure someone would be there on our late arrival. I explained to the receptionist our situation and that we were phoning from Hobart. We were advised on the arrangements for late arrival. All good........so far.
On our arrival ,approx 9.45pm the door to the reception opened and the lady I had spoken to the night before greeted us. I think I made a comment about making good time from the airport. She then asked us who we were. I explained we were the people from Tasmania who she had spoken to the previous night. She then said they were expected us the night before and the key had been left for us and when they found the key still there the following morning(the morning of our arrival) they put us down as a no show. She said we were very lucky as they only had two rooms left. (We thought we were lucky she had stayed late and we had somewhere to sleep) We had had a very long day and all we wanted to do was get to bed. On reflection we realised we could have been left with no accommodation. My husband remarked the receptionist must have thought we were on the Starship Enterprise to be having dinner in Hobart at 9.00pm and to arrive in Campbeltown at 10.00pm.
As to the motel itself. It was on a main road, easy to find, traffic noise not too bad. The room was large( a double bed and 2 singles) the bathroom clean, hot water plentiful, brilliant white towels.
Everything about this room was extremely clean, in fact it would have to be one of the cleanest rooms I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in a lot. After trying to watch TV to unwind we gave up as we kept couldn't get any programmes on the digital channel. We slept like logs in a very comfortable bed. In the morning we found there was no iron, we couldn't find the number for reception as no compendium so my husband had to get dressed and go to reception to get an iron.
This could have been a disastrous night for us but all turned out well and the receptionist was full of apologies for the mix up. She was actually a very nice lady and we all have our bad days. The television man was also full of apologies for the TV and we did get a room and eventually an iron. The lesson here I think is to always make sure you get an email in confirmation of your booking or to book online. We would still recommend this motel to weary travellers.

Room Tip: At this particular motel reconfirm your booking in writing

Thank you so much for your great feedback regarding the cleanliness of your room, I enjoyed your sense of humour regarding your means of travel to the motel (Starship Enterprise), and enjoyed having you here for your short stay. We seldom have misunderstandings regarding arrival dates and it is our normal proceedure to offer a confirmation email following a telephone booking. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip.

The location of the motel was easy to find. Our room was situated on the second floor and we had another busy road situated behind us. I found the noise from this road loud and rooms at the other end of the complex would be quieter. The cleanliness was fine and the room size good. The lady on check in was also very pleasant. Unfortunately they had a large group of people staying at the motel that night who decided to 'party' until 3am the next morning. Overall I felt the accommodation experience was in between average and very good.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road behind the motel.

We were travelling by train from Newcastle to Melbourne and required accommodation for the night before a morning departure from Campbelltown Station. The Motel is about 1 klm from the station and getting there by taxi or bus was not a problem. We arrived around 1245 and were able to check-in immediately thanks to the friendly staff. We were initially allocated a room on the first floor but noting my wife's walking problem we were given a ground floor room at the back of the property. This room was away from the main road, which ensured we had a quite nights sleep. The room was large with a queen and single bed and all the usual mode-con's. The shower is over the bath and the toilet is also located in the bathroom. The mornings light breakfast was delivered the night before, by arrangement, and we were able to cook our toast with the toaster provided. They also provide a complementary newspaper with your breakfast. For dinner that night, we dined at the Gold Wheel Chinese Restaurant which is about 100 metre's from the Colonial inside the grounds of the Maclin Motel. The motel was booked on Last Minute.com.

Room Tip: No lift to 1st floor , request ground floor if mobility is an issue.

We booked one night en route north and found the motel without difficulty as directions from the Hume Highway were included in the booking sheet. Clean and comfortable, and management recommended an excellent restaurant for dinner just a few minutes walk away. Recommended.
