My wife and I dined at Whynot on an evening in April 2008. Its location in the main street (Johnson Street) is excellent. It is a coffee shop and internet cafe by day, and at night attempts a transformation into an upmarket restaurant. But it doesn't really succeed. Its furnishings are somewhat tired and ordinary, and the entire front of the restaurant opens on to the footpath. We were seated at this open front, and I had to relocate to another seat due to the chill factor. The advertisement for "tapas" is somewhat misleading, suggesting Spanish appetizers. But all that was offered were a normal range of entres (soup, bread, olives, oysters, etc.), certainly not prepared or served in any Spanish style. But our meal of "tapas" and main course from the limited menu was pleasant enough, without being memorable. The night was saved by the very pleasant young female and male waiters, who explained the menu with care, made light hearted conversation where appropriate and kept service moving along.
