I stayed at the Mariner Bay in November 2012. I haven't written a review until now because I really only like to write positive reviews. However I think that this time, the truth needs to be told about this accommodation. Put simply, even if all of Byron bay is booked out and this is the only place left, still don't book it. Change your holiday, change your destination. Sleeping on a park bench would be better. Mould grows on the walls, curtains and bathroom. My child had to sleep in a cot that had mould in it and all around it. They charged us extra for said mouldy cot. They say its 3 stars and you accept that and arrive with low expectations, however a public toilet would be cleaner ( in actual fact most public toilets are cleaner than this place). The kitchen was beyond disgusting. You would not want to touch anything in it. The vinyl couches are from circa 1960. The television circa 1980. At almost $400 a night, it is beyond unbelievable. You have to drag all your luggage up a narrow and steep driveway then once you've done that (hoping that no cars are behind you zooming up the driveway), you have to lift it up stairs. No help was offered by the lady who checked us in then rapidly walked us to our apartment. Had we been able to get a flight out of Byron bay the very next morning, at any cost, we would have done so. The only adequate thing about this place is its proximity to the town centre (about a five minute stroll). Do not stay here. Do not.
