“Bargain of the Year!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2014 via mobile

Can't believe the AMAZING deal we received! The service was fabulous!
I would love to stay when the weather is warm so I could actually use the pool, it looked great.
The beach house would suit up to 5 people so with only 2 of us we had lots of room! It was spacious & private. Obviously a male designed the bathrooms though as there was really no where to put make up bags or hair dryers!
We checked out the Treehouse next door for dinner. The food was fresh & yummy! The waitresses were extremely friendly & we had a great night!
I love Byron Bay so much & would definitely recommend East on Byron.

Hi Recent Guest,

Yes, August was a fabulous month to grab a bargain at EOB. We had minor works being undertaken, which we are pleased to say are finalising this week.
The Treehouse Restaurant next door is always a favourite, along with our own Belongil Cafe directly at the front of our building. Our guests are certainly spoilt in choice for excellent food and service.

We hope to welcome you back again in the warmer months, and be sure to mention that you are a returning guest.

Regards
EOB Team

We had the most beautiful apartment and great service - absolutely nothing to write negatively about. A little out of town, but that was just right as we didn't want to be in the hustle and bustle of it all. The beach was literally across the road - a magnificent walk into town along the main beach.

Perfect and the Beach house is what we recommend - its worth it!!!!

Room Tip: The Beach house is the best - pay the extra and you will not be sorry!

Hi Melbourne Traveller,
Thank you for your great review, we appreciate all feed-back in our quest to maintain our quality and service. Belongil Beach is a fantastic location, as you mentioned for those who want to escape the crowds, yet with easy access to town, either by beach or car.

We look forward to welcoming you back, hopefully soon!

East on Byron was in a fabulous location, about a 10 min walk from the centre of Byron and right across from the belongil beach. What really made this place fabulous was the Belongil Bistro out the front, the Treehouse woodfired pizza restaurant two doors down and the ample living space in the apartments. For a family, there aren't many options for two or more bedroom holiday rentals in Byron, so they almost have the family market cornered. But...even with a lack of real competition I would still like to see some improvement. These apartments are touted as 'Luxury', so I think they should be serviced every day, supply bath robes, free wifi, and maybe a nice little welcome pack with some local goodies such as Byron Bay cookies. Also, the bathrooms are tiny which should be re-designed when it comes to refurbishing. The apartments are looking a little tired, so hopefully a refurb shouldn't be too far away. For Byron, the apartments are some of the best in the area, but if you compared to the broader Australian market they aren't up to par with their marketing. Also, while the service was pleasant and adequate, it could also improve. We were given the wrong bedding configuration to our booking - luckily they could move us - and the reception isn't always staffed.

Dear Valued Guest
Thank you for taking the time to submit your detailed review. We greatly value your input, and will be taking many of your suggestions on board to continue to improve our quality and service. We have three separate properties in Byron, each providing a different experience in price and services offered. East On Byron is fully self-contained with extra services and cleaning offered as an optional extra. Most of our guests prefer the privacy and tranquility that Belongil Beach provides, which separates us apart from the town centre of Byron.
We do hope we have the opportunity of welcoming you back again, and please contact us direct and be sure to mention you are a valued return guest.
Regards

The penthouse apartment was on the ground floor but that did not detract from the spacious and well appointed accommodation. The beach was less than 100 metres away and it was only a short walk to Byron Bay township. Staff were friendly and helpful.

We stayed in a 3 bedroom penthouse. There was plenty of room and the apartment was fantastic for a family of 5. The staff were friendly and helpful. The spa at the pool was great for the kids. Being straight across the road from the beach was very convenient for walks and swimming. Would definitely stay here again.

Dear Kim C
Thank you for your favourable review of EOB. Most of our guests comment on the proximity of our beaches, as most guests like to leave the car behind for a truly relaxing experience. Not all properties have pools in Byron either , so with a pool and spa it is a favourite choice for families also.
We hope to welcome you back on your next visit, and be sure to book direct to ensure 'Our Best Rate Guarantee', and also mention you are a valued return guest.

Depending on (i) your budget, and (ii) specifically whether you want to stay right in town, you could easily describe East on Byron as one of the best hotel/resorts to stay in Byron. If you were to base your selection (out of many great alternatives) in Byron purely on appearances on the hotel website, you probably wouldn't bother. The rooms (they call them villas) are fantastically - very spacious (living room huge), well decorated and well appointed. The main has a walk in robe and en suite, and the second bathroom has a bathroom (with bath) adjacent. The kitchen (Miele alliances) and laundry are well situated in the apartment. The two story balcony overlooking the pool (with good furnishings and electrical bbq) fantastic.

We stayed 5 nights and will go back again. Some things to note:

* Located in Belongil, it is a drive out of Byron (yes you can walk 15 mins along the beach, but unlikely to do that at night, in winter) - this suited us and will suit plenty of others as there is the tremendous Treehouse bar and restaurant two doors up;
* It is not cheap - at around $400 a night, you may be paying slightly less than you would at an as new rental house (note, you pay $20 per child per night above the base rate);
* If you are fussy, there are NOT block out blinds in the bedrooms, so for those with kids, prepare for early rising;
* Rooms are not serviced (or at least they weren't while we were there - for the price, you would expect at least rubbish to be removed from the front door.

We almost rated East on Byron 5 stars - we loved it and the above didn't concern us at all. We will be back.

Room Tip: Take an upstairs villa.

We stayed for five nights and thought it was great (although we were expecting it to be great based on the price).

We had a poolside villa (apartment technically). The floor plan was well suited to a 2 adult and 2 kid stay as the living area is massive and nicely appointed with wooden floors and nice looking but hard wearing furniture (so you're not worrying about kids dirtying up something). You get a private courtyard which has a bbq and six seat table undercover. The kitchen is well fitted out with Miele appliances and a dish drawer. It would have done with some more cleaning supplies given it is not serviced (ie something to clean down benches and the bbq). We just bbq'ed lunch and breakfast - and went out for dinner. Despite it being winter, the kids went into the pool which was cold - there is a warmer spa. There are now lounges placed in the sunnier part of the pool area too. The resort area was well maintained and cleaned. You get two car spots in the resort - one in a lockable garage and one under cover - but there's plenty of easy parking out the front too (just note your car will be covered in salt spray after a few days if out the front - not a problem if it's a hire car).

There is a cafe out the front of the resort which is nice for a snack or coffee. You can get a good dinner at the Treehouse which is two doors down (no love lost between the Bistro and the Treehouse apparently) which is very casual with good food - eg wood fired pizzas plus a restaurant menu. Otherwise we stocked up with bbq food for breakfast and lunch.

The location is out of the main Byron Bay area - you can walk (tide permitting) into town along the beach or a bit further via the road. Driving into Byron Bay (or driving out of town if you're going to the nice supermarket Super IGA) can be a pain as the road is busy with tourists and can be quite slow. However, as it is out of the town centre, it is very quiet and peaceful.

Mobile coverage on Telstra was good - a bit congested when Byron Bay was peaking.

The only very slight annoyances we had were:

1. the electric bbq did take some getting used but we learned to power it up 15 mins before cooking to get it nice and hot.
2. a previous guest had not cleaned the wine glasses correctly and instead had rinsed them in apparently dirty dish water which meant they were mouldy and quite smelly. We only discovered this after pouring ourselves a glass of wine each.
3. the front door has a window in it so anyone can look inside (however, there is no foot traffic aside from the matching apartment). The main living room has no curtins or blinds if you wanted to block out the sun - but it is enclosed by the private courtyard.

Room Tip: If you have a pram/stroller or physically challenged, the second floor apartments are stairs only.
