Look, this is not meant to be a luxury resort, and its location is very average. But we booked it at late notice via Wotif.com. We suspected there may have been service issues by the somewhat impersonal "welcome" we received on check in. But, benefit of the doubt - everyone has a bad day. Umm, it must have been a very bad week. Or year. OMG, the woman on the front desk ("Dianne" - who claimed she was the owner and manager) was an antipodeon Sybil Fawlty. In many years of travel we have never, ever, had to deal with a tirade from a front desk person for being 30 minutes late at check out. Dianne wasn't interested in hearing how we got trapped in a Byron downpour. No way. She told us (absolute nonsense) that we had incurred her costs. As she went on, it turned into a tirade about people like us who booked via a discounting website ("You people expect everything for nothing ..."). If you want a feelgood break in Byron and don't want it spoiled, try another option if it's available.

Very rude service and overpriced for quality of motel. We were treated with bad manners right from the start and so didn't feel like customers at all, which impacted on our weekend away. Also, when compared to where our friends had stayed at another motel closer to the town, we were disappointed at the price we had paid for this basic accomodation.

The “family suite” that we were given would be suitable if you were of a Lilliputian size, but as we are a family of 4 tall Americans it was overly cozy. As you entered the dark (for a purpose) “suite” the so-called full kitchen consisted of a refrigerator and a microwave. There was only one bedroom that was large enough for one double bed and that was the extent of the room – no closet, no art, just some cobwebs hanging around. The other room consisted of a double bed, which served as the viewing area to watch the TV, as there was only a loveseat as the only other piece of furniture. Fortunately it did not rain too much, as there was no table for dining inside the room, only outside of the door.

I do have to admit that the tropical landscaping around the small outdoor pool was nice and hid for the most part the parking lot.

Totally overpriced for the quality of the room and level of service. The man working at the check out desk was bordering on rude and seemed very unhappy to have to deal with guests. Our room, number 1, was clean but super-basic for the price. It was dark, damp and had very little going for it. For the same price, we stayed in a really nice apartment in Coolangatta so it was such a let down to stay at the Sunseeker Motel when we went to Byron. Would not go again and would only advise people to stay there if they are desperate since finding accommodation in Byron is tricky.
