This small, authentically rustic Italian Bistro is the real Italian deal! The food is outstanding, featuring home-made everything , using mostly locally sourced and often organic items. These are the healthiest and best Pizzas I have tasted. They also have some stunning salads! The pizza base is thin and crispy and the ingredients are usually not oven cooked but rather placed freshly on top on the hot base, which makes for a refreshing change from the soggy, greasy stuff most places churn out. Our pizza arrived looking like a masterpiece with fresh tomatoes, rocket and local cheese decorating the tempting pizza base which was presented, as most things are here, on a specially locally made wooden board, which adds to the rustic character of this lovely little place. It was delicious! The owner, Umberto, takes a lot of pride in his new restaurant and it shows in every way. The staff are as friendly as him and his wife, Lucy, who makes all the deserts. The menu is ideal for sharing and remarkably good value for Byron Bay. Since it is also BYO alcohol, you can have a very cheap night out indeed. Il Buco is smallish and intimate in its simplicity and menu and probably more suited to the casual diner who is looking for a superb foodie experience. It is ideal for a quick meal or a slightly more lingering one, but you could easily be in out and completely satisfied within the hour if you wanted. It is tucked into a corner of the run of eateries in Bay Lane (behind the Beach Hotel) and is easily overlooked if you walk too fast, so look out for it. Here are the details: Address: 4/3/4 Bay Ln, Byron Bay NSW 2481

Il Buco is open from 5pm and the kitchen closes at 10pm. I understand they may open for lunches in the future but are content at the moment to do dinner service. They also offer a take away menu. I thoroughly recommend this great bistro!
