We have stayed at this property twice over the summer and it has been great both times. We stayed between Christmas and New Year which is a very busy time in Byron Bay but here you are out of the chaos if that is what you are after! It is located across the road from beautiful Belongil Beach and is also just 15 minutes walk into town. The first time we stayed in a budget double room with a share bathroom as there was nothing else available. The room was clean but small but did have room to hang clothes and a sink. The share bathrooms were clean and not crowded. The second time we opted for a double with bathroom which also gave us more space and a t.v. This was a lot better option. The property has a BBQ area with picnic tables, shuttle bus into town 9 times a day, community kitchen, bikes and reasonably priced wi- fi. Their rooms range from backpacker style share dorms to cottage style accommodation. I would definitely stay again as it is great for relaxation as you are out of the crowd and still don't need to get in the car, but if you are after a party atmosphere you may prefer to be in the thick of it in the middle of town!

Room Tip: It's better to pay the extra to have your own bathroom!

Only booked for 3 nights but ended up staying a week!
Located 10 mins walk down the beach from town (except when tide is high) Gorgeous walk or regular free shuttle to/from town. Beach is 30secs away.
Great courtyard/garden. Good place to meet people, eat and chill in hammocks. Garden is shut down at 11pm so if your trying to sleep its fine. Really not a party hostel...very chilled.
I stayed in the girls dorm. Had sofas in which was lovely. Room was really sandy all the time, but cleaned daily.

Me and my friend both female aged 21 & 23 stayed at Byron beach resort!

We had a lovely time here, we stayed in a private room which was everything we needed! Rooms where clean and even gave us beach towls! And our own sink!
The beach was a 2 minute walk and was a beautiful beach that was so quite compared to the main beach!

The only bad point on this hostel is that the night manager and one of the day staff on reception (both blonde) where very rude! They had no customer skills and looked down on me and my friends which made us feel very uncomfortable!

We was shouted at for wanting to put our food away after kitchen had closed! (5 mins after) Making us feel like we was back at school. I'm sure if we was older then she wouldn't have spoken to us so rudily!
The other women made us feel like everything was one big effort for her!

The kitchen was a big and open however
there must have been and ants nest somewhere as they where crawling all over the counters!

No of the other backpackers where happy to talk to anyone and kept themselves to themselves which was a shame!

If there's a group of you planning to stay here there you will have the best time! If your own your own I would recommend to stay in the hostels by town.

The resort have there own bus which drops and picks up from town regularly!
And if you do go into town be prepared for the promoters to drill you to do there tours! They are everywhere and very annoying!

Thanks for your review;

While you've done our marketing for us in relation to your outline for our private rooms, shuttle bus into town, size of our kitchen and how close the beach is, hope to address the issue you raised regarding staff.

Firstly, we like to speak with staff that reviews / post mention as negative posts about staff are extremely rare, and we believe for good reason. Your outline whereby a request was made to re-open the closed kitchen something that the night manager acts upon management demands that this not take place. Unfortunately, previous loose enforcement of closing times / letting people in after closure only resulted in nearby guests being disturbed and also damage being occasioned. While not implying this would have taken place it is a procedure that since being strictly enforced it has worked all for all. If you, or any other guest, believes our staff hasn't handled any situation well please seek out our manager the following day, so we can address the matter ASAP.

Byron Beach Resort has become a great place to meet travellers from around the world. Generally we feel the interaction is great between guests, whether it be in the common room, kitchen or at one of weekly BBQ's, so we’re sorry to hear that you didn't feel the property facilitated interaction with other guests.

Lastly, we thank you for your feedback & we do take it into account. We're very happy to have you join us again should you ever return to Byron Bay.

Thanks

I spent one week at BBR and loved it. The staff are extremely helpful & friendly and the rooms are clean. It's good value for money - I wanted somewhere I could stay for a full week and not spend too much. The location was perfect for me - just across the street from Belongil Beach. It is far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Byron Bay that I was able to relax, but close enough that I could easily get there without a car (15 minutes walk along the beach, or a 5 minute ride in the free hotel shuttle). The resort is partly a hostel/backpackers - but it is large enough with plenty of room types that you are still able to enjoy peace & quiet and a higher grade of accommodation if you choose to. Thanks very much to the BBR staff for making my stay such an enjoyable one. I highly recommend the yoga classes on the beach with Russ! :)

Room Tip: Room 1 is right by the office - very noisy! If you are looking for peace and quiet, you are better...

This place is a really good one in many ways, and it's also slightly odd in my view. Being a seasoned backpacker, staying in these types of places is nothing new. In addition, school holidays were on which meant we were expecting one helluva party going on all night in the BBQ-area (and frankly all over the place).

Yet...

Travelling with friends we opted for a family room, which was slightly away from the main BBQ area and the dorms. Our next door neighbours were 50yr+ (we? we're 30+) and they were not the sole ones with more than a couple of wrinkles. I.e: This place is not only for 18-28 yr old backpackers. When we went to BBQ our food there was a full on party, but in good spirit with no hogging space or obscene behaviour. We later noticed that come midnight it was pretty much all quiet in the hostel area. This contradicts a lot of my personal experience of these types of hostels.

Ok, so more to the point on the facilities our room was in really good shape for a hostel. Our little (semi-private) back yard had a place for dining and also a hammock (omnipresent at this place) which we enjoyed. Our room also had an ensuite bathroom and a fridge, also appreciated. In fact, for the four of us sharing this room the price p.p. was less than a dorm, worth considering. The one downside I come to think of was the creaky bunk bed in our room.

The hostel offers quite a few services and we rented some bikes and took a 5 ride to central Byron Bay. The day after we also rented (padded) Surfboards which were in surprisingly good shape. Off-street parking was a also welcome feature.

So having rambled somewhat, I would say this place is surely worth staying at and I would not hesitate coming again.

Room Tip: Family rooms offer really good value if travelling 4 ppl

Hi Viskari,

Thanks for your positive comments, which encapsulate what we have been trying to achieve since taking over property. Also with our new booking engine your next stay should see you returning as a prior guest with a valued customer discount!

We're glad you found that as a seasoned backpacker, you enjoyed affordable Hostel style accommodation, but NOT the negatives that can flow from hostels. We do not see ourselves as a hostel, but as an affordable Real Byron Experience. Backpackers add to and often provide a great vibe to the property. However, we make sure that they don't distract for our many other guests staying in the higher end rooms.

The BBQ area is front & centre as a great place for all to enjoy, but this does as you point out closes at 11pm. Also as you point out the Travel Desk offers all the travel, activity & hire services we believe should be offered for a property calling its self a "Resort." Lastly, yes while we have replaced 80% of the properties beds we'll have a look at those you've bought our attention to in your review!

Thanks
Byron Beach Resort.

the hostel is very clean and new, and I must admit that the location isn't too bad. It's right near the beach, you litterally just have to cross the road and there you are ! but in an other hand, it's quite a walk to the town. They do have shuttle bus, but sometimes there is a big gap between the shuttles, and you have to walk . I would say it's a good 20 min . And at night it is very dark and a bit gloomy to walk alone in the empty street.

I needed internet and the price is a total rip-off. I had to pay 18$ for 6 hours. when you charge poeple 35$ a night for a bed in a dorm, the least you can do is offer a bit of internet for free . I stayed in places where they gave us 1 or 2 hours.

Also you have to give a 10 $ deposit for a cutlery set. Even if you just want a cup for you coffee, you need to hire the whole set. I advice you to keep it in your dorm , as I talked to a guy who had his set stollen . So we all kept on walking around with our set of cutlery in our arms.

other than that, the dorms and the bathrooms were cleaned everyday . The communal space is very large with a BBQ area and ouside seats. Hammocks .
no swimming pool
the staff was friendly and helpful. There is a tour desk but I barely saw anyone sitting there, always closed.

it's a chill out place. I did not have any problem with noise which is rare in Byron ! all the other hostels seem to be in the centre where all the bars and noise are. so if you want some peace and quiet , this is the place for you.

Hi Karen.

Thanks for your review, which we appreciate & take into account as our guests are a great way of both improving & pointing out what is good about BBR.

To answer your points; Yes, we've spent a lot of time & energy ensuring we firstly renovate & thereafter keep the property clean. So happy to hear your positive comments about these efforts. Yes we are not in the centre of town, which we promote as we're about creating an open & laid back vibe, free of the town noise as you point out in your review. Yes, our location does come at the cost of a 15 min walk into town or by jumping on the shuttle bus that run into town 9 times per day. Unfortunately, you missed our revamped our Wi Fi access packages, but we do offer free access (30 mins) for those that Like us on Facebook. One of the new packages is unlimited access for 3 days for $16.

We are aware that the cutlery set deposit can be an issue. However to explain why it was the case that prior to implementing this guests left dirty cutlery in the kitchen or kept cutlery & mugs for their own use/ This left the kitchen both dirty & often without use able cutlery. Since the deposit system was implemented these issues are rare, as is instances of set being stolen. In finishing we appreciate your objective & constructive review & we hope that we see you or your friends in the future.

Regards

We stayed in the Byron Beach Resort a couple of weeks ago. It was great value for money and opposite a quiet little beach called Belongil which is gorgeous. It was great to have our own balcony, complete with colourful hammock and little kitchen so we could prepare breakfast ourselves. Only downsides were that it was quite a walk from the town centre (20 minutes along the beaches which is beautiful...longer along the road) and there werent any shops and only one cafe, that closes early during the week, nearby.

Hi & thanks for your review,

We'd have to totally agree with your comments about the quiet & beautiful beach called Belongil Beach, the unknown gem of Byron !

We also understand your comments about our location, which is a 15/20 min walk into town. However, this is why we operate a shuttle bus in & out of town 9 times per day. We also promote our location as we believe it complements our idea for the property, adds to the vibe & also ensures a stay isn't disturbed by traffic by day & alcohol induced exuberance by night.

Thanks & we hope to see you again
