“Best hostel experience”
Reviewed February 17, 2014

You have to stay at this hostel at least once.. when you do.. you will want to come back again and again! it's got everything you need plus a lot of very chilled out people, which is very catching!

The rooms and kitchens are clean, there are loads of activities in the hostel and the walk to town is about 5 minutes.. there is a shuttle that runs regularly but i like my hiking so walked every where..

I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone.. it's well worth a visit. Don't stay in a boring hostel! this one is a place which you will talk about for years!

Stayed with my girlfriend in a cube room for two, was clean and tidy close to the shared toilets and showers.
The room was quite pricey for a hostel with local hotels not much more expensive and closer to the town centre. The brewery is about a 10 minute walk, however there are frequent shuttle buses.
A real hippy vibe at the hostel and everyone was very friendly and a good crowd.

Dear Andy,

Thanks for taking the time to write a review, glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. Prices are high in Byron over summer, so we are just keeping up with what the general price range is at all the hostels. Thanks for your positive points. Happy travels :-)

A bit expensive for a hostel but a good atmosphere and clean. My boyfriend and I had a double room with shared bathroom the room was basic but clean and had a fan and a fridge which is great.

There is a small kiosk/cafe but gets very busy so have to queue.

There is a kitchen which is cleaned regularly but dont expect to cook in there unless you are prepared to queue and wait as there are not enough hobs and not enough room for everyone. Also not enough fridge space for the amount of people in the hostel.

There is a bar, cinema and restaurant attached to the hostel which has good live music.

There are activities going on in the hostel everyday and night so great if you are alone, get involved!

The pool is lovely when the sun is out and loungers around you can chill out, and a chill out room for when the weather is not so good.

Thanks so much for your review. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We will definitely take on board your feedback about the kitchen and look and refurbishing it with better use of the space and more fridges and cookers. Happy travels.

This place has a spiritual and alternative vibe to it. There don't seem to be any rules of any kind, and the noise level is brutal. You can forget about sleep during your stay at the Arts Factory.

We stayed in a double cube situated right next to the pool area. There was no room cleaning during our 4-night stay. Room was ok, comfy bed, a couple chairs and a fridge. Bathrooms were dirty and gross, exept from the first half hour after cleaning in the morning. The food from the cafe was unfortunately bad as well. It simply tasted old and tame. However, the staff were friendly.

All in all, unfortunately not what we had hoped for in this price range. Perfect for those who love drinking and getting high 24 hours of the day.

Dear Claraklok,

Thank you for your review. Sorry to hear the noise levels were very loud, we will review this with our night team. It is peak season, so we do have a lot of people stying, and backpackers do like to party. I will say we offer a lot of other activities other than drinking - such as yoga, meditation, hoola hoop, dance, drumming didge and many more. So there is more to do than getting drunk, and it is NOT OK to smoke pot on the property. Happy travels to you:-)

Stayed here with a friend and it wasn't for us at all - you've got to love getting drunk (or high..) every single night, or be very alternative, to love it here. The staff were friendly, and very helpful - that's the best thing about this place. The bathrooms were dirty all the time, except the first 30 minutes after they got cleaned in the morning.
In our room we heard everything that happened outside, and that made it difficult for us to sleep. We also tried the food from the cafe, but it wasn't impressive.

If you're normal as us - don't stay here.
If you're alternative, love getting drunk/high and talk loud and play guitar - stay here. You'll love it.

Ps. Remember the dirty bathrooms

Dear PetraSophie,

Thank you for your review. The bathrooms do get cleaned 3 times a day, not just in the morning! Sorry to hear the hostel was not for you, I hope you find your happy place! Enjoy your travels.

I had the pleasure of staying in the Arts Factory for 3 nights, of which I tried to make 4 but the place was fully booked. With a heavy heart I had to leave the most wonderful town of Byron and the magical hostel lodge. If you are wanting to party hard, dance on tables and get off your face perhaps this hostel isn't for you. If you are, however, wanting to unwind, relax, make new and interesting friends and partake in daily activities such as hula hoop work shops and African dance lessons then this is definitely for you. No where else in the world manages to make you feel safe and welcomed so easily as this hostel. I heard a story when I was there of a couple who set up camp there for 3 nights which has now turned into 3 years and I know why! The arts factory restored my faith in people and brought back harmony into my manic life!
