“Perfection!”
Reviewed June 21, 2014

I have just enjoyed the most perfect weekend in the Summerhouse. We stayed in the luxury room and spent a lot of time on our beautiful balcony enjoying the extraordinary views, the pool area was very tranquil and again THE VIEWS were out were out of this world. Breakfast was delicious, the friendly girls and the chef working there told us the fruit all comes from the local organic market which we really appreciated. The girls also gave us great advise on where to eat in town which helped as we hadn't been to Byron Bay before. I just read the review from Alison_888 and wonder how we could have both stayed in the same room but had such different experience! The bathroom is lovely I have no complaints about it at all.... great job!

Room Tip: we loved our room but we did see one room with a spa and would have booked that one next time.

This is truly an amazing place to stay. The views are incredible and our room had a private balcony where you could relax and take in the expansive view. The staff were friendly and professional during a busy long week end. We were able to relax in the beautifully appointed lounge where you can enjoy the Dedon furniture and sumptuous leather lounges. The breakfast offered included in our rate was exceptional and the chef most accommodating; we will return!

Room Tip: A suite with private balcony is recommended

Words do not express how abominable our stay at the Summerhouse was on the weekend of June 6-9 2014. However, I will try my best to share with you the myriad reasons for why you should NOT stay here. I booked this place for my husband's milestone birthday thinking it would be a five-star B&B and make a nice change from our usual abode at Byron at Byron. It is NOT a 5 star B&B! It could be more aptly described as an average family home which has been converted into a B&B through a novice renovation, placing makeshift ensuites in each one of the already small bedrooms. And this description is being kind! The overall experience of staying here is tantamount to that of staying at a 2-star backpackers or a noisy share house.
The view is brilliant - I give it that. However, it is situated right on the corner of a busy road and the traffic noise is very loud in your rooms throughout the day and night. The noise from fellow guests is also extremely loud and noise travels easily from the shared lounge area to the bedrooms.
We usually stay at Byron at Byron and we were therefore expecting service of that calibre. However, when we arrived we were greeted by some random Byron local who did not even introduce herself and showed us a few bits and pieces in the shared kitchen (including where our "shelf" was in the fridge - I thought I was over share house days!!!) before taking us to our room which was extremely euphemistically labelled the "Luxury" room. May I suggest a change in title to the bog ordinary room? Or perhaps even the crappy room with the DVD player that doesn't work and an open shower that leaks water all over the floor?
It began badly and soon got worse. We had told her we wanted to cook pasta, as we'd arrived late on a Friday night and hadn't eaten, and in her airy fairy way she did not even think to show us where the pots and pans were. So we were left scavenging around for a good while looking in every nook and cranny before calling her for help.
The morning after we experienced the cold buffet breakfast which is a fruit platter, three different mueslis, yoghurt, milk, juice and coffee/tea. Breakfast does not start until 8.30 a.m. which is too late in my opinion, and has probably been orchestrated opportunistically by the management team in order to reduce the number of mouths they have to feed. Furthermore, if you are staying when other people are there, you will have to hot foot it to the shared dining room lest you find (as we did) that all you are left with are dregs of grapes and a slice or two of mushy kiwi fruit, no yoghurt and no place to sit to eat... Suffice to say, it wasn't a great start to the day!
As previously alluded to, the TV unit is a complete piece of claptrap and should be binned. It is a TV with a built-in DVD player. The one in our room did not work on several DVDs (non-Blue-Ray) and then on the two random DVDs it did decide to work for, it abruptly stopped both movies half way through. Needless to say, hubby was furious. Even when we tried everything to restart them and scene select to where we needed them to play from, they refused to play. There is also no channel 2 or channel 10 or their digital affiliates, in case you were wondering.
As for bathing, the makeshift ensuite shower contains one piece of glass dividing the shower from the toilet and is open at the base. Therefore water pools all around the toilet and basically the ensuite turns into your very own swimming pool. It also ran out of hot water after my 4 minute shower so you really need to wash yourself before the noisy masses in the other rooms all try to do the same.
At the pinnacle of our horrendous holiday was us trying to relax in our room on a Sunday evening, whilst enduring the cacophony of 6 or so noisy drunks sipping wine and talking bollocks literally 3 meters from our bed. We could hear everything they were saying and had to close our balcony door, draw the blinds and even then we could still here them. My husband was furious and so we packed our bags and left. Honestly...it was the best moment of our whole holiday!
(I wanted to leave the moment we arrived due to the traffic noise, lack of privacy and feeling cloistered in our little dormitory room.) However, in the end, the decision to finally retrieve our bread and cheese from our "shelf" in the shared fridge and vacate ASAP will go down in history as one of the best decisions we've ever made in our lives.

unlike what all the below people are saying, my husband and I (25 & 27 years of age) had the absolute most amazing stay. there was another couple there one of the night but did not even know. the breakie of fresh fruit, musli, local yoghurt, honey, organe juice and coffee was stunning and all you need. the ladies who served us in the morning were an absloute delight and were so lovely to chat to. the view was unlike anything you have seen, we were in awe of it every day we were there. and only 5min car ride to Byron - i say it was worth every penny.

We arrived at The Summerhouse and were booked in a room which was next to the common kitchen and loungeroom and pool area on the ground floor. Later that night, there were several guests having a gathering in the common area outside our bedroom which made it very noisy and difficult for us to enjoy ourselves. The fact that our room provided minimal privacy caused concern and spoilt our stay. The property is only suited to mutual friends or a large family group and not individual couples and it is very overpriced.More like a 2 star rating instead of the 5 star and would never recommend.

Expensive, noisy, cramped. Overpriced and not at all what the pictures of the property would lead one to believe. We both felt the place was like a high end backpackers. We were booked for the weekend but stayed the (Friday) night and left in the morning. We would never stay again. David H

A bit disappointing. Too close to the Bangalow - Byron road, which is fast and noisy. The rooms were clean and comfortable but without a single item of decoration. The view was great and the breakfast pleasant. Overpriced and not the quiet country retreat we were hoping for. Would not return.
