Lots of climbing up stairs and hills. Difficult but doable. We walked from main beach to lighthouse return and it was 8.5km. We couldn’t do the loop because it was closed past the lighthouse for repair, so had to come back the same way. We opted to walk back along the beach from captain cook lookout because it was low tide.

We were so lucky to do the trail on a day when the sun was shining, it was not cold or hot, and not very crowded. the pace was great and when we came to the "Eastern most point of Australia" we were able to watch a couple pods of dolphins swim by, At the same time, several smaller whales starting playing for the crowd. And to top it all off, a sea turtle came to the surface below us. What a way to start a week long holiday in Byron Bay. The views are stunning during the entire walk, so it shouldn't be missed.

The Beaches of Byron Bay are gorgeous and well worth your time to drive down Lighthouse Road. The vistas are amazing and the beach is truly incredible! It's an easy drive, even if you are used to driving on the right side of the road. If you visit Byron Bay, you need to see Lighthouse Trail!

As a local, I've walked this trail 100's of times! I always take the anti-clockwise route, the views of the hinterland are superior. You can start in town, or there's parking near "Beach" Cafe, then the entrance is off Lee Lane. It's a bit of a hike through the beautiful rainforest (at one point there are 160 steps in a row!) but you emerge near the base of the Lighthouse and then it's mostly downhill from there (of course!) From the lighthouse, you can walk in a north/north-west direction with spectacular views of Byron, the hinterland and Mt. Warning in the distance. It's an absolute must-do when visiting the Byron Shire!!
