“High quality Thai in ambient environs”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2013

This is probably the nicest Thai restaurant I've ever been to in Australia. The food quality and flavours were exceptional. The range of choices on the menu and combining of delicate flavours were delicious. It is somewhat experimental and contemporary in approach - so not for anyone expecting the standard dishes you find at the more mainstream Thai eateries, or indeed at street eats in Thailand.
This is top shelf food, at reasonable prices. If you want something rich and very spicy try their slow cooked organic goat curry. The salads were divine. The carefully made fish cakes were the best any of us have ever tasted, which says a lot about their choice of ingredients and preparation techniques. Everything we tried, which was more than half the menu, was superb.
The staff were genuinely lovely, professional and helpful. Service was low key, efficient and friendly. The interior elements of the restaurant were warm and tasteful with a welcoming atmosphere.
The cocktail list here is delightful & the Lychee Champagne cocktail was delicious.
We were a large group of 12 people, from various places (Melbourne, Ballarat, Sydney, Canberra, Lismore & Ballina), and all of us had a truly lovely time. We opted for shared plates of everything, and we all raved to each other about various dishes for days afterwards!
There was also a lovely outdoor seating area at the front, elevated over the street-scape, for those who prefer to soak up the outdoor air.

Dear Miss Debonair,

Thank you for the amazing review!

Stepping away from the "mainstream Thai eateries" is exactly what we are aiming for. Being in Byron Bay, so far from any major markets, getting our hands on authentic Asian ingredients has proved to be a great challenge. In fact, when available, we source our betel leaves, kaffir limes and kaffir lime leaves, pandanus etc. directly from the local farmers. But more often than not, when these are not available locally we have to travel up and down the coast. We want to offer our guests the freshest Australian seafood, curry pastes made fresh from scratch, home-made sauces and sorbets. We want to offer our guests a unique dining experience!

Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
Best regards

“Knock Out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2013

Lucky I got there on opening at 5.30pm as reservations on lots of tables. Had already picked my meal wandering past the night before, green curry with prawns beans and baby sweetcorn. One word, brilliant - fresh, thick, full of ingrediants and lots of kick.

Dear Lizzum,

Thank you for writing about us!

We are so happy you enjoyed your green curry! It is one of our favourites too. It is incredible how different a curry made with fresh curry paste tastes. We make our curry pastes from scratch and I think one can really taste the fresh ingredients used.

We hope to see you again on your next trip to Byron!

Best regards

“Thick, Rich & Pungent”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

I like to consider myself a Thai curry conniseur, after visiting Thailand 9 times and studying Thai Massage and their culture I enjoy dining at Thai Restaurants and testing their Thai curries for authenticity and taste.
I was recommended Traditional Thai in Byron Bay particularly for their curries. My husband and I turned up on a Saturday night at 6pm without a reservation to find out we would have to wait 45 minutes. Note to self: make reservation.
The following weekend, reservation made for 6pm we were seated in a breezy spot at the top of the stairs, were diners were entering and exiting all night long. The waiting staff seemed a little harassed with the manager rushing around keeping things flowing as it was a full house. We were offered "tap water" or "sparkling water" thinking at least we might be offered "filtered water instead of "tap" and chose the Sparkling later to find out @ $7.50 a bottle, tap might not have been so bad after all.
My husband and I ordered the combination platter entree for 2 as a starter - 2 spring rolls, 2 satay chicken sticks, 2 fish cakes, a handful of green salad and 3 small bowls of sauces. Enjoyable and tasty @ $16.
I ordered the Green Prawn Curry @ $26 and my husband chicken pat thai @ $21

The curry was thick, rich and pungent. Full of authentic spices it was more like a stew than a coconut soup. A complete taste sensation with me only eating half the bowl and taking the rest home to freeze for a future delicious meal. My husband enjoyed his Pat thai but didn't think he would return to try another one.
We finished the meal off with desert Banana fritters and a scoop of coconut ice cream $9 which was light and tasty and not deep fried in batter.
All in all I did enjoy the curry but not sure I would make the effort again.

“No loss of Quality with Take-away”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2013

When my wife suggested Thai Take-away, I thought "Ho Hum"
BUT we were blown away by the servic and our 3 course meal.
After finding the Traditional Thai in Bytron Bay on the internet, we phoned and after checking the special ofthe night, ordered from their online menu.
We received a return phone call 5 minutes before our order was ready, so that we could pick it up at just the right time.
We are both sitting back in our motel room, full of a great meal and gratitude to the cooks and staff. Next time we visit this way we will defintely enjoy a meal at their restaurant.
