“Great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

We stayed in a ground floor apartment, Apartment 4. Big family room - good for those occasional rainy days, well equipped modern kitchen plus a private courtyard area. The apartments face a large, beachfront park that is great for kids to cycle, kick a football or just run around. No roads to cross. There is a gas BBQ with table and chairs for guests immediately outside the apartment - great for al fresco dining. Its only a few minutes' walk to the shops and cafes of Byron Bay and to the flagged area of the beach, so it is not necessary to have a car to enjoy the facilities of Byron Bay.

The apartment was very quiet despite being so central, and I would not hesitate to stay again and again.

Our third stay here in 8 years or so. Fabulous location. Great for kids with the park out the front and a very easy walk to the "flags" on the beach. Great for bike riding as well. We stayed in a courtyard apartment as we have done previously, but this time stayed in 4 rather than 6. Courtyard is great as space to store bike and boogie boards.

Another plus that the "double glazing" on the bedroom windows along Lawson street meant it was quite quiet. It was hot while we were there but the air con in the living area was sufficient with the fans also on in the bedrooms at night.

We had another family over for dinner one night and plenty of space and kitchen supplies to prepa and entertain.

But popularity does mean wear and tear. Everything could have been a bit cleaner and in better condition in our apartment (4). the courtyard needed a good blast with a pressure cleaner and the furniture in the living room had had a hard life.

We would not stay in that apartment again unless it had had a bit of updating.

Also a very musty smell on arrival. It had been humid and the apartment had been closed up. Once we had been in there a day or so it was fine.

Great destination, great location, great apartment .. Just needs some TLC.

Room Tip: Check whether the apartment has been updated

We recently stayed in apartment 1 which was a bottom floor apartment with our two children (ages 3 years and 6 months) we asked for a cot and a high chair and they were there in the room on arrival. The two bedroom two bathroom apartment was spacious and the large courtyard was great for sun baking etc when the kids were napping. The only thing we didn't like was the couches which were a light colour and showed up all the years of grime! We purchased two queen sized bed sheets from the woolworths to put over the top of the couch for the duration of or stay. The location is perfect, right on the Main Street and only a park to cross to reach the beach. We enjoyed markets and the New Years fireworks. New Year's Eve was pretty crazy in Byron and the adjoining properties may have been privately owned because there were parties all night long but it's New Years so to be expected...I guess. Rubbish runs were noisy. And hall light mentioned in previous reviews were a little annoying I agree. I also thought it a little weird that we stayed for 9 nights and didn't get our room cleaned at all in that time (only when we departed) overall thought I'd go back and stay there again :)

All up the accommodation is pretty good to OK. It's showing a bit of age but the photos on the website indicate this, so no surprises there. The accommodation targets itself to families and this is appropriate, it's an OK setup for this and has good communal facilities BBQ and laundry and toy box.

We stayed in a Penthouse Room, No 9.

OK, now for the problems. The courtyard below use was messy, palm branches thrown into a corner. Looked messy and created the wrong 'feel'. It seemed like half the bulbs in the apartment had blown. There was a lamp in the lounge that had a shade that had broken away. Ridiculous that this hadn't been replaced. Dimmers didn't work. Outdoor light to BBQ didn't work. The contact details we were given were 'wrong', so when we arrived and the high chair we requested wasn't there, we could not contact anyone to correct this.

Worst of all, the construction site across the road was very noisy. Worse still, when questioned, the management saw no reason to advertise that the work was happening. So be forewarned, there will be no notice of this major inconvenience. The noise was so bad that it would show up 'red' on the baby monitor, a LOT of the time with all windows closed. Consequently, we had a 14 month old baby with very little sleep and a vary irate wife! Adding to the construction site, noisy pre 10am maintenance on the premises including lawn trimmer and hammering were consistent with the perceived lack of consideration by management.

Once contacted, management were very pleasant to deal with and did compensate us for the disturbance. Unfortunately, for families with young ones, the 6 nights we stayed were a precious opportunity for relaxation that was lost.

Further to the above, there were a lot of garbage truck rounds, with the apartments being close to two streets.

Cot hire is available from byron bay (baby?) hire and was really good value for money.

We took a taxi up to the lighthouse, for just over $10.

Overall, without the construction we would recommend it. With a bit more careful management of activities on site and maintenance it would cater to its market very well. But at this stage, it falls frustratingly short.

We stayed in the loft style apartment for 3 nights. The apartment was beautifully decorated and very clean and tidy. It is 2 blocks from the Hotel (an easy 5 minute walk) and across a small park to the beach.
My only gripe would be that the outside light kept me awake til midnight (when they turned off). The room up in the loft didn't have any blinds which made it difficult to sleep in past 6am.
Overall I would stay here again but I would be choosing to sleep in one of the bedrooms (not the loft) or a different style of apartment.

we stayed for 3 nights in penthouse 9 which has an interesting layout over three floors with a large living area and good sized kitchen. Up a few stairs to two bedrooms and a bathrom. Both had two single beds (always helpful with teenagers as opposed to many three bed units which have two doubles and two singles.)Then up again to a main bedroom and ensuite. Plenty of room for everyone, very clean. The only negative was the lack of a decent cooks knife in the kitchen, and surprisingly the TV was still analogue and not on the free to air digitial channels ! It had a very limited sky cable tv . very friendly check in staff member at reception.

Room Tip: I think they would all be fine depending on your requirements.

Our family of 4 (2 kids aged 5 & 2) recently stayed here for 3 nights. We had apartment 6 which has 2 bedrooms. The apartment is very spacious and well equipped. The courtyard was great for sitting outside and not being cramped on a deck. Laundry facilities are available free of charge and there was a washing line in the courtyard. The location is great being so close to the beach & not needing to cross any roads to get there, it's also close to the shops and restaurants so we didn't need to use the car all the time. The only gripe we had was there was an outside light on directly across from the main bedroom which shone through the blinds until late at night, so bring an eye mask! Other than that the place is perfect and we would love to stay again.
