Enjoyed the pizza, very tasty. I asked theDJ if he took requests. Response"no". There were few people at 6 30.The music was so loud and pretty out of date with rap! Really!! We went to SouthBank in Brisbane on Fri. The following night and at one restaurant they were playing up to. Date music. Employ a dj who can adapt his music!!!!!!!! Leslie

“Pretty good pizza, very poor service”
Reviewed March 8, 2012

Friends recommended this busy, popular restaurant, and overall, the food and drink (other than the dessert - more on that later in the review) were pretty good. We were there on a Saturday night, and they were really busy, so we expected the service to be brisk and hurried. What we got was a surly, unhelpful server and a disappointing dining experience overall.

We ordered our drinks after a very long wait for service. Again, it was busy, and we were happy to wait a while, but it was a long wait. When the drinks came, the order wasn't complete—we had ordered a bottle of water as well—and we had another long wait before that arrived. We ordered our food and were pleased when our nachos arrived fairly quickly and were reasonably good.

Our pizza arrived quickly as well, and this was a problem, since we were only about a third of the way through our huge order of nachos, and we had been seated at a tiny bar table. The person dropping off our food—not our server—seemed flummoxed by this development, so I found an empty chair and placed our pizza on that, assuming someone would be back to collect the empty plate when we had finished our nachos. But no, we ended up putting the empty plate on the chair when we were ready to eat our now tepid pizza. Our server didn't come check on us again until we had finished all of our food and all of or drinks, so there was no chance to ask for a refill or hand off the empty plates on the chair.

My husband decided he'd like dessert, so our server went off to find a dessert board. (?) Whatever it was, she never found it, so she came back to the table and quickly recited the list of desserts. We ordered a dessert calzone. Here's where things went really wrong.

Apparently their system dictates that an order for the dessert calzone goes into the queue with all the pizza orders, since it's prepared at the pizza station. Terrific, but what we didn't know is that despite it being a dessert, it gets made in order, and therefore has to wait in line behind who knows how many pizzas. I've never worked in a kitchen that would handle it that way, but that's their system, so whatever. In any case, the pizza station was completely slammed, apparently, and after 45 minutes of waiting, my husband went to find someone—anyone!—to cancel our order so we could just pay and leave. He tracked down a helpful employee who took our money and explained the situation. She assured us it would only be a few more minutes. Our server, meanwhile, hadn't been by even once to see if we needed anything, or to explain what was going on with our dessert.

About 10 minutes later, the ENORMOUS dessert calzone arrived. It wasn't worth the wait. The crust was burnt, the sauce was fake-tasting and chemically and the filling was overly sweet.

A couple of observations. 1) It makes sense to explain to a customer that the dessert they're ordering is actually huge, and more appropriate for two people, and 2) it also makes sense to let them know that on a busy night, this dessert could potentially take a long, long time. Also, it's never a good idea to simply disappear and let a table sit there with empty glasses, waiting for dessert for nearly an hour. How about coming by with a quick, "Wow, the pizza station is really backed up! Do you guys want some coffee, or some refills?"

We'd go back if we found ourselves in the area, but probably not on a busy, summer, weekend night. We're so, so easy to please; we love to eat out and we both sympathize with busy, harried restaurant folks. We've been there. But sloppy, inattentive service like we got wrecks a night out.

“the maitre d' threatened me with violence-hilarious!!!”
Reviewed March 7, 2012

I thought I had seen it all when it came to bad service, but I have never been physically threatened by a head waiter before. At least Fawlty Towers was funny, this just sucked!

“Fun offbeat restaurant 100 meters from the Bluewater”
Reviewed February 20, 2012

Breakfast is sketchy but lunch and dinners were excellent at this funky little joint just a few minutes walking from the Bluewater on the Beach cottages. We enjoyed it several times during our 11 day stay.
