“We just kept on going back”
Reviewed January 3, 2011

This place is a gem. The food, the atmosphere the service and the drinks are all fantastic and I cannot wait to be back in Byron to eat there again. Our food adventure at Italian at the Pacific started with a simple coffee, but once we saw the menu, encountered the friendliness of the staff and nestled into the cosy atmosphere, we were hooked. Coffee turned into lunch, lunch turned into cocktails that evening and then we returned the next night for dinner. I with with a party of five, which meant we grazed through a fair slice of the menu over the two days. Each place was perfectly cooked with all the flavors blending together perfectly. The wine list (although on the expensive side) was comprehensive and the desert was sublime. I am not sure which restaurant SaucySauce above wet to, it was definitely not the one we kept going back to. My only criticism was with the service, when we went there for dinner. The place was absolutely packed and it did take far too long for our meals to be delivered (an hour to be precise). So while it cannot be faulted across many areas - perhaps try for an earlier or later dinner to avoid waiting too long for your meal. One last thing...the cocktail menu is innovative and delicious...don't skip it.

“A night to remember...best oysters I've ever had, service rare in Byron”
Reviewed December 20, 2010

A girlfriend and I had dinner at The Italian last week and we live in the hinterland and therefore we are familiar with Byron's fare. The Italian blew us away with the care taken to ensure our happy evening. The oysters I recalled over the following three mornings, they were so exquisite. I had the ravioli which was silken and full of fresh goats curd and the sauce was alive with fresh flavours. The cocktail bar was a thrill to observe (I had a generous mojito) and the tasteful design and eclectic atmosphere was a joy. This is a rare Byron experience and the bill was a fair exchange for the quality of our evening.

“A truly aweful dining experience where the kitchen lacks basic kitchen skills”
Reviewed November 20, 2010

This restaurant really needs to lift its' game. All three of us experienced sad, poorly executed meals. When I asked the manager if the oysters were freshly shucked on the premises he said "yes" Clearly they were not, as we were presented with oytsters that lacked any brine, or flavour and were flat, flabby and insipid. I don't like being misled, particularly when I am paying $3.50 each for what are being sold as "freshly shucked"
One of our party ordered a pasta dish with a mushroom sauce. He was given penne that was brittle in the middle, taking "al dente" the extreme. This pasta was crunchy ! How difficult is it to cook penne??
Two of us ordered Pork Belly, which was tough, dry and stringy. How can you get Pork Belly to be that dry when it has so much fat in it ?? A salad was also ordered. I expect more than a scimpy handful of leaves in saucer sized dish for $9.
We didn't order dessert, but left, feeling cheated of a good night out
