My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights one weekend. We greatly wished we had seen these reviews before we had booked, we were extremely disappointed. When we arrived the toilet had a foul smell coming from it; turns out it hadn’t been cleaned from previous guests, it was disgusting. There were cobwebs in the corner and ants going up the wall. The so-called “bathroom” was absolutely ridiculous. It was not a ‘marble or glass ensuite’ it was actually just a dirty toilet and a shower placed IN the corner of the room on the wooden floor! The only thing which was separating the room from the toilet and shower was a pathetic curtain! It was revolting sleeping about 2.5 meters away from a toilet. This was not romantic at all! There were no fly screens on windows either. There was a small tv which we could hardly even watch as the bed was blocking it.. We were disgusted that we were paying $200AUD for each night; there are so many other nicer places to stay in Byron, which are even cheaper. It’s a joke that they charged this much. $50 a night would have been more appropriate. ALSO the “5 star luxury room” shown on the wot if website is actually the owners room! The photos shown are misleading, we stayed in the ketut room which was filled overfilled with large furniture. We were also told by the people who ran the place that we were not allowed to use the kitchen.. Please do not waste your money staying here you will be greatly disappointed.

The house is on the corner of a busy street. There is no AC so the windows need to be open and it is quite loud. Sleeping was difficult with all the noise.
The room was musty and small as all the rooms seemed to be. The room we saw promoted and requested is actually the owners apartment (the upstairs of the house).
There is was no breakfast provided despite advertisement that breakfast is included.
When we arrived the inn keeper charged us more per night than she had orginally quoted.
Property advertisement is not accurate.
On the plus side it is not a far walk to the beach.
There are much more comfortable and better value accomodations to be had in the area.
We stayed at the Cape Beach House one night which is much closer to the beach, serves a great breakfast, cheaper rates, simple but comfortable room.

I selected guest house from the internet, I visited with my son and his partner. We required seperate bedding configurations and were given the room with a day bed and a double.
We had our own little private court yard and a lovey large private bathroom with a claw bath with glass doors opening onto the garden.
The bedroom was on the side of the house and not overly large but as we had use of the rest of the house it was not a problem.
The gardens were beautifull and as the house was only occupied by one other single person it was very quiet which was great for relaxing.
I note others complained of mosquitos, this is normal in the environment, you just need to make sure you keep the doors closed. We had fly screens and doors.
It was a pleasant walk to the beach and we chose to drive to the main shopping area, probably a 10 to 15 minute walk.
There were a few areas of the house where there were bugs and cobwebs, and it was a little dusty, but the house is left open most of the time and it would be difficult to not have this under theses conditions.
It was very homely, relaxing and you felt like you did not have to worry to much about anything when there.
It could be a little over priced especially for the midweek days, especially with breakfast being toast and cereal only.

A wonderful relaxed atmosphere where you can feel right at home. I've noticed some O/S visitors condemning the place but I found it excellent. We had no problems with mossies or spiders.(Although it IS Australia so if they were around we are well used to them!) Rooms were well appointed, clean, welcoming and YES, even had mossie nets. Loved the Balinese theme and being surrounded by so much wood and positive energy. The host Donna was excellent. Great fun and easy to deal with. The guest house is also just far enough out of the city centre to be quiet and away from the hustle and bustle, and yet only 10 min walk to the beach. (GREAT coffee too just down the road at The Top Shop) I would recommend this guest house for anyone looking for a relaxed easy going stay. The house is a Queenslander so you could hear guests trumping down the hallway etc. Not a biggie though when you spend most of your time at the beach!
Thanks again Donna!

My weekend at Byron Bay Guest House was extremely relaxing. It has beautiful Balinese day beds on the front and back verandas. It is surrounded by big beautiful trees, has a gorgeous buddha garden, its very peaceful while you can still hear the sound of the ocean and only a five minute walk to the beach and CBD. Byron Bay does have a problem with mosquitos and insects because of its amazing weather like everywhere else in Australia because we do live in the tropics but that was easily fixed when the hostess laid out mosquito coils in the afternoons which made them go away. It is a beautiful place to stay for either a romantic, business or family vacation and in a great location.

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!! We wish we had seen some of these reviews earlier, as they would have saved us time and money. The room was extremely overpriced for what it was - cobwebs and spiders in the corners of the room; a trail of large ants going up the wall near the bed; a million mosquitoes throughout the room when we arrived at midday; a shower and toilet in a glass box IN THE ROOM, which provided no privacy; dust coating the fan; no flyscreens on the windows; a dirty fridge; and mould on the mosquito net canopy. After spending an hour trying to kill all the mosquitoes, we asked for some insect spray which they didn't provide us with. We had to shut the windows and the bedroom door to keep the mosquitoes out, leaving the room stuffy and uncomfortable. Upon informing the owner Donna of our concerns the following morning, she took no interest and proceeded to defend the house, offering no apologies or compensation. This accommodation would be fine if paying AUS$20 a night, but not acceptable for the large fee we paid. DO NOT WASTE YOUR VALUABLE MONEY AND TIME STAYING HERE, YOU WILL DEEPLY REGRET IT!!!
