We were looking for another restaurant and, being unable to locate the one we wanted, ended up here. The place is well presented and we were quickly seated at an outdoor table.

There are some positives to our experience, unfortunately they are not the important ones. The place was clean and the staff were helpful and attentive. They sold a passable Sauvignon Blanc.

It was when it came to the food that things started to go wrong. The size of the portions was very generous but what was served had little to do with oriental cuisine as we know it. We regularly eat Indian, Bangladeshi, Chinese and Thai, hence believe we have a good idea of what to expect and what particular dishes taste like. The Butter Chicken we ordered consisted of shredded chicken in a bland sauce. The Beef/ vegetable Massaman was in a particularly heavy peanut sauce. The taste of individual spices was absent. The popadoms were particularly greasy and soft. The rice was sticky and not the nice fluffy pilau rice we were hoping for. Anybody with minimum kitchen experience, could have thrown these dishes together.

As we were hungry, we ate some of it but left more than we ate. The bill wasn't excessive - but we would've preferred to pay more and get good food.

The first mistake was ours, you never use to take bookings - so we didn't. When we arrived we were told it would be half hour max, left our number and went for walk. 45 mins later, we hadn't received the call, so headed back. There were quite a few tables free, so we were led to one. I can not fault the service from here. Attentive and friendly. However, the food was disappointing. The complimentary pickled veg were delicious, but sweet. My main I had was less than my 12 year old could make (shredded ice berg lettuce, cold rice noodles, 4 cold prawns, garnish of mint - the side dipping sauce was flavoursome but sweet). My husbands dish was so sweet he felt nauseous. We will not be rushing back.

First ate here a year ago and returned with some hesitation in case it did not live up to our memories. Well the service and food were wonderful. This place is great value for money and a taste sensation. Fish, goat and salads were all delicious. Highly recommended.

Sitting outside of the only Chinese restaurant in Byron Bay on a slightly humid, comfortable breezy night in January - it doesn't get much better. The ambience of the internal space overflowed to the terrace and and an extremely well informed female waiter explained the Specials. We were comfortable and happy and everything sounded delicious. So we ordered as much as we thought we could eat, and then another dish (the tempura prawns were irresistible), just in case. And everything was served in a timely manner, seemingly choreographed, at perfect intervals and we were neither overwhelmed nor wanting. And we enjoyed every minute and every morsel.

The food is constantly fresh with an exciting menu. The restaurant gave us free pickled veggies prior to our meal to cleanse the palet - a lovely touch. We then had the special - Laos crispy rice salad (delicious) and the mandarin pancakes. Wonderful dishes that we would certainly go back to eat.

Recommendation: Make a reservation - it gets very busy.
