“A beautiful, memorable dining experience”
Reviewed July 20, 2013 via mobile

We traveled from Sydney to try out Biota Dining. It was a special and unforgettable experience. The staff were pleasant and welcoming, the menu was creative and fun and the food phenomenal! We are already planning our return. Our favorite dishes were the mushroom, the pork cheek, the trout and the strawberries and crean with liquid nitrogen. James the owner and Exec Chef is opening 6 rooms to create a hotel in addition to the restaurant. Well be back very soon!

“2 hats and just brilliant”
Reviewed July 15, 2013 via mobile

By far my favourite restaurant, do I need to go further? Ambience, service, wine selection is fantastic. The food is well balanced, contemporary and is art on a plate. The cocktails are terrific and they will even make a special one for you. Overall, another great night, food, service beyond expectations. No need to travel to sydney to eat first class

“Lovely relaxing lounge bar lunch”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

We decided that we would do the lounge/bar area tapas menu rather than dining within the restaurant. We sat by the window overlooking the pond and near the wood fire, it had such a lovely feel to area, light and bright as opposed to the restaurant that was dim and moody. We order Wagyu Burgers, BBQ pulled pork burgers, Brocollini w almonds & flaxseed oil, Maize with Mushrooms and garlic oil. All were really lovely and super tasty. I really enjoyed the maize, I will try and recreate this one at home. We also had a glass of sauvignon wine and Lobo cider.
The meat within both burger are on the minimal side, but tasty. I am a little bemused at why the brocollini was more expensive than the wagyu burgers. The staff and service was good and friendly. We then moved to the lounges in front of fire for our coffees and complimentary hazelnuts treats.
Overall we had a delicious and lovely 2+ hour dining experience and wandered about the outdoor area (be great to eat out there in spring/summer). Would definitely return to tapas lounge again for a relaxing lunch.

“Visit Melbourne to see what you should be doing, chef!”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

We were delighted to snag a table on a Sunday without a booking. Really looking forward to trying this fabulous looking and sounding restaurant.
Such a disappointing experience!
It started so well with great homemade bread and "house churned butter" but went rapidly downhill with food that was overworked and unbelievably bland.
Someone in the kitchen is trying to be Ferran Adria without the talent or ability.
Bonito was lovely, but everything with it was a let down and tasteless, the result was an uninteresting dish. Pork cheeks would have been good if they were not smothered in a squid ink concoction with the consistency of snot. I can still taste it...disgusting! There was not even a mention of squid ink in the menu desciption..it was supposed to be chestnuts, go figure. Duck was tough and again the dish was tasteless and bland..The pine needles were in edible!. There was much fluff like "truffle sand" and lots of crumbled stuff that was floury and tasteless rubbish. Brooke trout was overcooked and tasteless accompanied by a cockle that was like an old boot, impossible to eat.
Chef needs to take a trip to Melbourne to learn how to cook. Even the unpretentious Donkey Bar in Gertrude st serves amazing spanish tapas with simple flair and exquisite flavours.
We don't mind paying for a good experience, but this was not even passable.
My advice? Stop trying to present like Heston and concentrate on the food and the flavour!

“2 chefs hats and more”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

We regularly meet friends from Sydney in the southern tablelands for lunch. We look for quality food worth a two hour drive each way, atmosphere, and the ability to cater gluten free.
We found at Biota a creative menu, innovative combinations, beautiful presentation and attentive and well trained service well worth the drive.
As we left we made another booking for September.
