We had dinner here on a Friday night. The restaurant & bar area is fairly large & modern. There were quite a few families having a more casual dinner in the bar area, the restaurant section is separate, situated in front of the chef's kitchen so you can watch them preparing your meals.
We were able to chose between a 3 course menu, 5 course tasting menu or 7 course degustation with or without matching wines. We opted for the 5 course tasting menu with matching wines- they were very flexible with substituting 2 dishes for me that I couldn't eat. The food was faultless, creative & beautifully presented. The serving portions were decent- I was getting full by the 4th course. The wines were mainly local & complemented each dish wonderfully.
Service was excellent, atmosphere was lacking a bit because the restaurant wasn't very busy the night we dined. The restaurant area could do with dimmer lighting. I will definitely return on my next trip to the Southern Highlands.

Having left the Southern Highlands some 14 years ago, it was great to return and have such a fabulous dining experience. The Manning Hotel was built when we lived locally so we knew the locality well. Biota Dining was recommended by both my sons and did not let us down. The decor is delightful and service was exceptional.
We opted for the three course meal and did not regret our decision. Each meal was beautifully presented and each taste was superb. The wine list is good and provides a good choice of local, intrastate, interstate and overseas products, at reasonable prices.
The overall experience was outstanding and the price amazingly good! We've already booked again for November!

A different experience, small servings but quality. I'd advise asking about the size of each dish as they do vary. The food is lovely in a Heston Blumenthal modern style, requiring much deconstructing and deciphering of ingredients. The focus is on locally produced and sustainable. They do need to turn the lights down a bit!

My partner and I celebrated an anniversary at Biota in May last year and it was a meal I'll never forget! Biota's mantra revolves around only the best fresh, local produce and it didn't disappoint. Creative takes on staple meals with outstanding results, they do a mean Kir Royal too. Their smokey butter churned on site had me almost licking the knife, save for good manners. Nestled into beautiful Bowral, Biota is a dining experience not to be missed!

A small group of us went to Biota a while ago to see what all the hype was about....what an absolute waste of time and money. We received our entrees about 45 minutes after ordering. They were not bad but a bit underwhelming and tiny.
Our mains came about 1.5 hours after our entree plates had been cleared, we were starving by then so we eagerly began our meals.
One member of our party ordered the fish which had been "cooked in a cryovac" for 18 hours. She took 2 bites and pushed the plate aside but not before dry retching just a little - the fish was the consistency of jelly and smelled like a fish market at the end of a very hot day. We requested the plate be taken away immediately as the mere sight of this "fish" was putting everyone off their food. She didn't want to touch anything else on the menu and had to get something on the way home.
The rest of the food was bland, lukewarm and the texture was not pleasant.
Don't be fooled by the hype, there are so many other fantastic spots in the highlands that just serve simple, classic and good food.
