“Grand old Dame”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Built in 1880, a lovely pub with good cafe (open breakfast/lunch/dinner) reasonable prices and super friendly staff. Rooms upstairs off the verandah great views and privacy. Current owners updating (eg Air Conditioning in rooms). Nicely appointed room and comfortable bed however lace curtains on the doors means little privacy. This is a pub so noise from downstairs does flow up through the floor boards. Basic breakfast (cereal/toast) included in fare, with shared kitchenette (with fridge/microwave/jug). Would stay there again.

I have stayed at this hotel before, under the old owners, and it was nice, Boowowa is and beautiful little town, but our recent experience was awful...

We arrived at around 7:30pm at the hotel to staff who couldn't figure out how to read the booking sheet, so we had to do it for them, so as you can imagine, this was not a good first impression. When they finally figured out what rooms we were in, we found the rooms to be relatively clean, but had clearly not been vacumed for some time. There was a bottle of sour milk in the fridge that was supplied for tea and cereal.

The following morning, someone had deficated on one of the toilet seats before 8:30am and long after the cleaner had been though, at midday, the toilet had still not been cleaned! Disgusting! We had to put in a special request to have them cleaned.

To top it all off, the new owners of the hotel, who took ownership after we had made our booking, changed the rates without telling any customers, and tried to charge us two times the amount that was agreed when we booked.
This was our experience, if you decide to stay there, I wish you luck.

Room Tip: Room 9 is right above the music, so is super loud.

It has taken a long time for me to respond to this review and have been encouraged to do so by visiting guests. We had asked trip adviser on several occasions to intervene, however they prefer me to answer.

As the owner of the Boorowa Hotel, I checked in EG and her family into their rooms, all booked under one name with no reference to family make up. With 4 adults and one baby, my mistake in that the gentleman was brother not husband. The other two adult’s sister and mother.
Fridge is attended to daily.
The up stair toilet in question was only used by guests, and cleaned as soon as reported.
Room 9 does absorb more noise than agreeable, the beautiful wooden floor has been earmarked for sound insulation, carpet etc.
No mention that it was EG's family that requested the music turned up, and of their mirth at EG's annoyance.
These criticisms only came to the fore at time to pay, this "Woolfest Weekend" is known to attract a premium. There is also no mention that due to EG's tears and unhappiness she was not charged for her stay.

The Booroowa Hotel has a lovely patio with a wonderful cockatoo and a very large and sleepy dog. It has a very nice feel to it, both inside the small bar area, or in the larger common areas. The upstairs is quiet and clean and simple. I would definitely recommend it for anyone traveling through Booroowa in New South Wales.

Room Tip: Any room should do. If there is a huge party going on, it will reverberate through most of the town...
