Even though the budget was obviously not sky high, I felt this was a very worthwhile attraction for someone interested in Australian history. The volunteer out the front was very friendly and the gift shop had lots of options for further research. The opening video was quite long but very well done .

We visited the courthouse as a start point to our brief visit to Berrima. The experience commences with a short introductory film that provides a very good historical background and reference point for the rest of the township. You then move through the courthouse building with static displays that are interesting and relevant. You can spend a lot of time reading the material presented. Next you move into the court itself to witness the end of the trial of some past citizens. It is all very well done and well worth the admission fee. The rest of the town is just fantastic as well. it is well preserved and the history just leaps out. A great experience.

Berrima is a delightful historic village with beautiful cottages, gardens and public buildings. However, we were disappointed by the courthouse. Friendly staff and interesting photos. But I would alter the audiovisual in the courtroom, especially the random lighting effects that detracted from the story. It was expensive for the experience received.

The drive from Sydney to Berrima and its close by sister towns of Bowra, Mossvale and Mittagong is one of the easiest and most enjoyable day trips from Sydney on pefect highways through beautiful countryside.

Berrima is the smallest of the 4 twons and by far the most intact colonial town. The main street is dominated by its 1850s cottages, shops and taverns, all beside the imposing sandstone walls of the early colonial era Berrima Gaol, that has now been closed.

The Berrima Court house has been reborn as an historic tourist education centre that tells the story of Berrima through its colonial hey days as a regional centre, the gaol and its decline as Goulburn developed as the regional centre and Berrima faded.

Seeing the "sound and lights" presentation sign, I thought the worst of a tacky or amateur show, but the reality was that the court house has been wonderfully restored, showing off its architecture, wonderful and informative static photo displays and graphic time line displays prepared intelligently and professionally. The court room is as it was in the 1840s, brought to life with almost "Madame Tousard" quality mannequins allowing adults and kids to get a sense of the people, court room operation and the re-enactment using lights and projected images and commentary by a professional actor, of the court room proceedings and a famous murder trial that took place there.

Superbly clean and very helpful, enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers to guide you. The small entry fee was well worth it and contributes to the facility's upkeep.

Well worth a visit to appreciate and enjoy this wondeerful little Australian Colonial Town.
