I know, I know. It's a historic court house, what did I expect ?
I expected a dodgy video presentation, check. Only 15 so survivable.
I expected a lot of old photos, check.
I expected a lot of information on the local history, check.
I expected it to be staffed by volunteers who thinks their history is the most exciting topic, they just won't shut up about it, check - got that in droves.
What I did not expect, was the actual court room would be full of crappy, dressed up dummies with an overreacted audio track with everyone yelling at each other and the volume of the audio track ! Wow, we could not stay in the court room at all with that thing on. It sucked.
And if you go to see a historic court house, the court room is kinda the key room !
Save your cash, go across the old highway and buy an ice cream.

The Courthouse is a great place to visit and learn about the area and its history. Dressing up in the main court room adds variety and fun to the experience. Just a tad cool in some of the rooms.

Went to the Courthouse and all I found was a gift shop staffed by a Elderly lady who wanted me to leave as she was closing up. They sold soap.

We liked the court room re-enactment and there was also plenty of early Australian settler information and artefacts to look at. The introductory video probably went a bit too long. Access to all areas within the old building added to the experience. A lot of effort by the locals to provide this attraction and provides context to the townships place in white settlement. Happy to pay the $9 entry each for this non-profit venture.

Fantastic museum; beautiful Georgian architecture, fascinating facts and extreme silliness. Give yourself around an hour to see the Courthouse. Watch the 15 minute history of Berrima before you go sightseeing in the town, it will help orientate you and make the buildings more significant. Each room is text-heavy, but with a lot of really interesting information. This is especially the case when they give the chronology of the building of the courthouse, make sure you also read what was happening in greater Sydney to pick up some cool facts about NSW history. Finally the "spooky light show" at the end is a hoot, hardly terrifying but great fun and a good way to visualise a Georgian court.

You can get a 50% discount voucher from the Tourist Info Centre in Mittagong, however this museum sustains itself only through the entrance fees and donations of visitors. It is well worth giving a little back considering so much effort has gone into both the displays and restoration of what is a very remarkable building.
