If only we could have stayed longer in our beautifully appointed modern room (which was only just the basic hotel room). We thoroughly enjoyed the facilities. Even the room rate of $165.00 was reasonable given the usual inflated holiday season rates.

We were also impressed with the staff member who took the time to assist us by researching on the internet to provide directions for a last minute detour of our onward journey.

Yes there is noise from the doors and shared laundries however we would still highly recommend.....

The welcome from the reception throughout the whole stay left nothing to be desired and we found the facilities were outstanding. We would certainly return to the Remada when we next visit Ballina.

We witnessed dolphins whist eating in breakfast and also saw a turtle in the river.

I do not think the Ballina Council make the best of their city which with the number of vacant commercial premises does not give an atmosphere of a bubbling community.

I tried to book a one night stay through the actual website for the Ramada, but it was only given me the option of a three night stay, yet on wotif you could get a one night stay, so I ended up emailing and was given a better quote than wotif, so either email or ring if you can't see what you want on a website, i prepaid over the phone so I didn't have to do all that at check-in, The day before we arrived I rang to ask as we were travelling with two cars if we could park one there early in the morning, this was not a problem, we left our car there at 9am, then proceeded to see a movie and go for a drive, not what we entended but Ballina copped 110mls of rain between 9am-6pm lovely!. We got back around 2.30pm and check-in was easy as we had stayed before our details were already there, the room we were given was nice, it was clean but the layout was not the best, our bedroom was right near the lifts, while the lounge and dining has the water views, the last room we had both the bedroom and lounge was facing water, but this doesn't take away from our stay. One thing I will say to managment and i have seen it written here a few times, please open the curtains if you know someone is checking into the room, to walk into the darkness especially on the day we were there is a bit of a worry, i hit a chair on my way to opening the curtains!. I know it is only a little thing, but it is the little things that matter. Apart from that the room was clean and tidy, there are a few little marks on walls, and mould on the shower ceiling, to a lot of the public this would be unacceptable but as i work in the industry i know this is just general wear and tear. As the Suites have been built atrium style, the amount of rain coming down and leaving puddles on the walkways was a bit of a worry, while the tiles are good and slip proof, coming down the lift and into the foyer these tiles are not and if your shoes are still damp, beware you may slip, maybe a rug placed in front of lifts for people to walk on as they leave might deter this. We ate at the Italian Restaurant which is always very good, they were busy, but still managed to find us a table, the service there is just amazing, you are never left too long waiting for a drink, and they always time your courses so the most you will wait is 5 minutes, Highly recommend if you are staying to try them, you will not be disappointed. We had room service breakfast in the morning, there was a mix up with our time, so we ended up getting it a half hour later then we ordered it for, the lady who brought it was really lovely and very apologetic, we were fine with it, it wasn't an issue to us, and the breakfast was huge!, it is very much value for money, we both couldn't eat it all, and the orange juice was really lovely, it was so fresh!. I always pack a dvd player when we go places in case where we stay doesn't have one, this came in handy as we couldn't do anything with the weather we experienced, so we ended up watching a couple of movies, when we went to bed, we could hear people talking outside and the general banging of doors, we discovered one of the windows had been left open a few inches, whether housekeeping does this not sure, but as soon as we shut it we heard nothing( so a tip for the ones that bedrooms face the lifts like ours did, check your windows are tightly shut!) , and had to turn the air con on during the night as the room is airless, but the bed was extremely comfortable, and the shower was lovely,
check out was nice and easy, will we be back, yes we will..but will request a different set out room next time.

My husband & I stayed here for one night and had a room with a balcony overlooking the river which was just lovely. We got a good price on Hotels.com due to booking so late. We thought the room was of a very good standard with large ensuite bathroom with a shower and a spa bath, plenty of tea & coffee and free use of the laundry room & free washing powder which was very helpful to us as we were on our honeymoon travelling around Australia. We also enjoyed the use of the pool and found the whole pool area to be very nice. We didnt eat in the hotel restaurant as we found the prices to be a little high however we found this in general throughout Australia. Our only one issue was a smell from the drain in the ensuite. We called reception and they sent a maintenance guy to our room who dealt with the issue quickly and efficiently however a few hours later the smell was back. We called reception again and asked if it would be possible to move rooms as it was our honeymoon after all and she said she would get back to us however nobody did. It wasnt the end of the world but if we had one bad point to say it was that the staff were not the friendliest we've ever had the pleasure of meeting.

We stayed at the Ramada between Cnristmas and New Year 2010. We were 3 adults, my husband, myself and our adult son.
We stayed in a one bedroom apartment with waterviews.
The apartment was spacious, tastefully decorated, bright and airy.
Our queen bed was very comfortable as was the fold out double sofa bed in the lounge room that our son slept on.
Despite the huge size of the hotel/apartment it was very quiet.
The reception and bar staff are great, very friendly and helpful but don't expect housekeeping to get it right, ever.
They didn't manage to leave enough towels for 3 people even once dispite my 2 phone calls and leaving a note for them and the room was not really "serviced" during our 5 night stay. They did call in and shift things but certainly not the dust!
The bar is very pleasant and the pool, although much too cold for our liking is large and clean.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and would rcommend the Ramada but take your own wash cloths in case you don't get any.
Ballina itself is a non-event but if you have your own transport you can spend your days having a look around the greater Byron Bay area which is terrific.

I had previously stayed in the 'old' Ramada in Ballina and, based on the great accommodation there, I was looking forward to trying the new version which has since opened about 200m from the old location. What a letdown! The whole place smacks of a hotel chain doing it tough, from the charmless staff at the front desk to the grotty corridors leading to the rooms. We arrived to find dirty room service trays outside the doors of our room and our neighbours and the trays (complete with decaying food) stayed there for four days, despite housekeeping walking straight by several times. The room was pleasant enough, but airless and it was impossible to open a window for fresh air, as the noise from the street (garbage trucks, street sweepers) was not the ideal way to be woken at 6am. If the garbage collection doesn't wake you, the shared alcove doors will as your neighbours come and go and the doors shut with a vengeance behind them (this is not the neighbours being rude, but the doors being super heavy). We were thrilled to have a laundry, but the laundry room is another airless, ventilation-free space that turns into a sauna very quickly and - as the signs warn - can set off the smoke alarms by using the dryer. And yep, the fire alarm did go off. A very disappointing place and we cut short our holiday to escape from what is a soul less place.

Management response:Responded December 15, 2010

Good afternoon
This is Jordan - Marketing Manager of the Ramada here in Ballina.
We are terribly sorry for your unpleasant experience.
I have tried to locate your booking and asked all staff here if they recall a guest who had such an unpleasant time.
I have put all staff on notice and informed the independently run restaurant of the complaint on trays also.
This is just not acceptable and will be addressed.
Please contact me as soon as you can, so I can discuss the matter further to ensure this does not occur again.
We know about the doors closing and the fire issues with the dryers.
We have tried to fix these. Both are related to fire requirements as we cannot even soften the doors as a possible fire hazard.
This is very frustrating for us all.
This does not excuse your experience though.
Please see that this is an exception as other reviews are very positive which is our aim.
The Hotel which is actually owned by 2 local families (the Ramada is a franchise) and the rooms are also all separately owned and we manage them on their behalf.
So you are aware we are far from going broke and sorry you felt this place unfriendly also.
Please give me more details on this so it can be addressed promptly.
Fire regulations is one thing, as well as garbage trucks that are difficult to contain, but poor service is unacceptable.
I mean it, please contact me immediately to rectify this.
I actually issued a press release last week as we came in No.5 on wotif in regional nsw.
Our repeat guests are over 60% and our guest satisfaction levels Ramada rates us on places us in the top 5 in all of asia.
I can assure you this is for very good reasons, like ensuring prompt action on your experience.
We are very sorry once again on your experience and I encourage you to call or write or email me so we can further improve.
Thank you for your honest assessment and all comments have been taken on board.
Jordan
