We stayed for 3 nights in a 2 bed family room which was unclean. Our daughters room had a bad smell and the carpets throughout were unclean ( we could tell by the soles of our feet!). They need a good steam clean. The bathroom was musty through lack of ventilation.

The cleaners were not up to much either. They 'serviced' our room, which was basically make our bed, not our daughters, and replenish the tea/coffee. You would have thought they could have manahed a quick sweep and mop of the tiles, as there was no cleaning equipment for us to do it.

The BBQ that was for guests to use was left dirty with an empty gas bottle, and we asked if it could be cleaned and re gased, the next day it was still dirty, so asked again, it was cleaned, but the gas bottle was left empty.

The TV was not up to much either, and a DVD player would have been nice. The price of WiFi @ $15 for 24hrs was vwery rude too, cheaper in Vanuatu!!

We got the impression no one really cared and could not be bothered.

We have stayed in better equipped 'resorts' in Samoa, Fiji and Vanuatu.

Our apologies over this issue of mustiness, unfortunately the guest did not raise the matter during their stay for any action.... we later identified what appears to be a spillage from the mini fridge in the room. This particular room also has a kitchenette with a range of utensils and cleaning equipment is the kitchen cupboards - the guest must not have opened the cupboards when wanting to clean up after their children.

It appears to be a misunderstanding about the BBQ's... we have two seperate BBQ's for guests to use and although one had been used the night before, the second was clean and full of gas but overlooked by the guest.

We actually offer FREE internet at our internet desk in the lobby for guest use. WiFi is charged for guests who wish to use and download in their rooms or during conferences etc.

We also have several DVD players and a library of DVD's available from reception FREE of charge for guest use - which is also outlined in the guest compendium in the room.

Stayed at the 'resort' for a function during October. Location is excellent and overall impression good, looks can be decieving. The place needs quiet alot of work and maintenance to bring it up to resort status. There are cracks in the walls, the veranda boards are lifting and in some spots you could fall through. The rooms are outdated with the bedroom furniture and electrical equipment (air-cons). There is no consistancy with the rooms, they are all different - if you stay with a group then you wander to each others rooms and if you see that someone elses room is better than yours than you kind of start to wonder why.....
The Service was extremely poor. Not only the front desk service but also at the resturant - which we dined in for a function. The food was cold when brought out and one particular guest said that the same waitress missed her 3 times when serving their food.
When the evening was coming to an end all of the tables were stripped and the little goody bags/gifts at the tables were taken away.
There were not enough rooms set aside for this function and when checking into the rooms, the wrong rooms were booked (not enough beds) when going to front desk/phoning reception there were no apologies or anything from the staff. When checking out the next morning the staff did not even ask how our stay was........
Very disappointing especially because of all the money that was spent.
The best part of the night was the people that were there, a good time was had by all.
I will not be coming back to the Ballina Beach Resort.

I have stayed at this resort twice. One short stay and one long stay.
Everything is Ok with this resort. Short walk across a nice park to the beach. Ok restaurant and bar.

The pool is the problem. And it would be one of the most heavily used facilities.The bottom of the pool had a coating of slimy black stuff that could be scraped off with the foot. I spoke to a few people about it and one woman would not put her head under the water. The water was clear but I have no idea why they didn't scrape off this dirt or mould or whatever it was. Certainly didn't make the pool an enjoyable place to be.

Went to a few other places up and down the north coast of NSW and din't find a dirty pook once. Some were immaculate.

Very strange.

Thanks for the comment - you're absolutely right in that the pool certainly needs some attention.

It's not actually a cleaning issue, but rather, over time the render has aged and now needs more extensive reapirs.

We're very pleased to say that as the new owners (April 2010) this is about to happen. We'll be closing the pool for a few days (winter's a good time) to have all this work done.

Next time you visit, it will be fresh and sparkling, without the dark shadows in the pebblecrete.

Not located in central Ballina but at a beach just further north. Advertises as the only resort in Ballina on the beach but you actually have to walk across a wide piece (200m) of parkland/grass across the street and then up and over the dunes. You cannot see the beach from the resort. Reception was friendly.

The room we got had a queen and a single bed in it. It was upstairs and the support post for the handrail up to the second floor had rotted almost through. The slightest pressure on the handrail and it would have fallen to the ground and so would you. I reported it on check out so it may now have been repaired.

The room itself was quite nice with modern bedding. However, the hose to the toilet cistern was leaking water onto the bathroom floor and the replacement toilet paper roll making it soggy and unusable. I think the rooms have been partially updated recently but the outsides have not. The two storey accommodation blocks and reception are located around a central ‘jungle’ type garden with a swimming pool (unheated), spa (heated but not very clean) and sauna room and a tennis court. For some reason paths don’t go to all the blocks and we had to walk around the long way to get to the pool and spa.

We had breakfast included and it was quite good. There appeared to be nowhere else to eat in the local vicinity (without driving) other than the resort’s fairly expensive restaurant. The main part of Ballina and shops are some distance away – much too far to walk (about a 5-10 minute drive)

Overall the resort was OK for the price ($99 for two including breakfast during school holidays) but could be better with a bit of extra maintenance.

Mu hubby booked this for my birthday, and I checked out trip advisor after he had booked. I was a little concerned having seen a couple of the reviews but my fears were unfounded. The room was neat and clean with a comfy bed and 2 person spa bath (which worked!) We had happy hour drinks in the bar which was busy, but it was a Friday evening and obviously locals use it. The only 'disappointment' was that the room was advertised with kitchen/kitchenette facilities and there was only a kettle, toaster and fridge. No probs through, we ate at the RSL in Ballina one night and Fish & Chips in Byron the other. We will stay there again!
