Tallaringa Views
Reviewed June 4, 2013

My husband and I visited Tallaringa Views for 2 nights for our anniversary. We really enjoyed our visit, and found it to be a lovely and relaxing place to stay! We hope to return soon.
The location was lovely, far out in the hinterland. We enjoyed the bush surrounds and the chance to get away from it all. It was a fair drive to Byron (45 mins) which may bother some, but as we were looking to stay in the hinterland this did not pose a problem for us. Other little towns like Alstonville, etc were near by for buying the milk and bread, etc.
One of our favourite aspects of Tallaringa was the property itself. There was a beautiful waterhole where we enjoyed swimming and looking for turtles. It was absolutely lovely. Be aware, it is a very steep hill to climb back up to the cabins! But we enjoyed the chance for the exercise :)
The verandah was also lovely, with it's hammocks and Weber BBQ to enjoy. We enjoyed reading here, and a glass of wine looking out to the peaceful surrounds.
The cabin was extremely well stocked, with everything you could require for your stay. we were very impressed, as there were picnic sets, all the kitchen appliances we could require, DVD's, and every little thing we may have needed.
We were concerned at first when we discovered there was no air conditioning, but there was lots of good ventilation so we did not find this an issue.
The 2 cabins are quite close together. This did not bother us as from the cabin itself and back verandah there was good privacy, but it would be worth noting if there were noisy neighbours, etc.
Being so close to nature, we did find that there was a bit of dust, dead bugs, etc, particularly in the hammocks and outdoor spa (we had to give it a clean before we used it). While everything inside was well looked after and very tidy, keeping things perfectly clean at all times is obviously difficult in the bush.
One thing I did find a little off-putting was several little signs within the cabin giving instructions or warnings. For example (I am paraphrasing), "don't put firewood on the floor, as it will get dirty", "take the DVD out of the box in this way so it won't snap", "use only 2 drops of bubble bath to begin with so it doesn't froth over", etc. I suppose some people might find these tips and hints helpful, but it made me feel a little 'supervised'. Having said that, perhaps the owners have had trouble with these things in the past and need to protect themselves. A "please/thank you/we appreciate your assistance", would have helped these sound a little less intimidating.
This was one of the nicest cabins we have stayed in in terms of hinterland location. We really loved our stay, and would not hesitate to return to Tallaringa :)

*On another note, at the time of our visit the property was for sale. While we found our stay to be really lovely and pleasant, it would be worth noting that there is likely to be a management change in the near future.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights as we were in the area for a wedding and wanted somewhere away from busy Byron Bay. We weren't disappointed! Margaret and Garry have thought of everything and there was nothing we didn't need (apart from a little tea tree oil when I got a tick - thanks Margaret!) We were worried it was going to be a little out of the way, but it's very central to Ballina, Byron Bay, Lennox Head as well as the smaller towns of Bangalow and Alstonville. They have gone to so much trouble to provide lots of information about the local sights and we went on a couple of the suggested drives. My husband said he thought we saw as much of the local area as we could in 4 days! We both loved it - would definitely stay again :-)

My partner & I stayed at Tallaringa Views, in Rosewood Retreat, for five nights. Margaret & Garry were very warm with their welcome, which put us instantly at ease. They have thought of everything; bubble bath/tealights for the spa, shower gel in the shower & the kitchen was very well equipped. The cottage is very well built & designed, just perfect for two. There are views from every window, which are very calming to ones senses. Everything was in working order and easy to operate. We will definitely return to Tallaringa Views, it is what the doc ordered to refresh, rejuvinate and relax. Thank you Margaret & Garry.

My husband and I stayed here our wedding weekend. The lodging itself was very clean and well furnished. The balcony perfectly catching the morning sun making it a great place to have breakfast. The big windows and skylights make the place open and airy and all the native trees and shrubs in the garden attract wildlife and birds. The log fire is both romantic and practical and the kitchen is well equipped. We enjoyed the complete privacy and peacefulness of the location. The hot tub was a nice extra although it's a shame it didn't have a nice view, instead it was next to the watertank! But this is a minor thing and it was still a private hot tub on a winters night - dreamy. The owners are lovely, friendly and more than happy to help. Would definitely stay here again.

With a 14 day break from work and 8 B and B's in that time Tallaringa Views was by far the pick for No1 pick for us.
Quality finishes, soft colours , fire , spa, established native gardens , well stocked kitchen , vast DVD selection, undercover parking, ease of booking, and value for money when compared to other B and B,s .
Only improvement that we would make is to include an L shape lounge for snuggling up and a dimmer switch for the lights, but that is being very very picky.
We will be back.

This was the second time we have had the pleasure of staying at Margaret & Gary's cabins. The first being our honeymoon, this time as our last 'couple getaway' before our baby arrives.

There are two cabins on the property, and we stayed in Cedar Cabin both times. The serenity and privacy of their property can not be rivaled. From the minute you step into the cabin, you are in complete peace and quiet with no disruptions from the outside world.

Margaret & Gary have gone above and beyond to ensure your stay is enjoyable and relaxing. You could quite easily enter on your first day, and never willingly leave for the rest of your stay.

The kitchen is perfect for those who do not feel like eating out every night (although be aware there is no oven; just a stove top and microwave). It is well-stocked with equipment, including a full-sized fridge freezer, pots and pans, and a dishwasher. Pay the little extra to upgrade from the breakfast basket (orange juice, milk, bread, yoghurt, condiments, muesli and wheetbix - enough for two days) to the country breakfast (the above, as well as eggs, tomato and bacon) and enjoy bacon and eggs on the glorious deck. Make sure to partake of the local gourmet plunger coffee they have available as well!

The shower is a beautiful feature, in seclusion whilst being able to look out on the hills beyond. The outdoor spa in its own little 'nook' also has beautiful views and a gorgeous garden surrounding, perfect for some private indulgence with wine and cheese.

There is nothing like watching the sun go down over the hilltops as you rest in one of the hammocks on the deck and take in the sounds of the birds who will keep you company.

There is a fireplace (with plenty of wood to keep you going for 2-3 days straight outside) which was perfect for the cooler nights whilst we were there, and the cabin is well stocked with both DVDs and board games to while away wet days and chilly nights.

Margaret and Gary have also made up some wonderful 'suggestion books' full of information on the local area and things you can do such as drives, galleries, arts & crafts in the local area and nice places to eat and drink at during your stay. My husband and I recommend Utopia at Bangalow (breakfast, lunch & dinner) and the Sunday night roast dinner at the nearby Eltham Pub.

Both of us agree that there simply is nowhere else like Tallaringa Views. If you are looking for a private retreat to recharge and relax with the love of your life - this is it. Indulge. Rest. Relax. You'll never want to go home.
