“Great Food, Excellent Service, Beautiful Location”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

Wow! We drove down from Lake Tahoe to catch the fall beauty and to have dinner for our 37 wedding anniversary. This little resort is pure charm all the way. I'd say they are a bit pricey, though. But the food is really, really good. We started our evening on the patio with a bottle of fabulous wine (Macchia 2010 Sangiovese from Amador County) and chips and salsa. The salsa was homemade and very good - more like a pico de gilo. I thought the serving was skimpy for $8, though. We ordered the rib eye steak with roasted potatoes and fresh string beans. The steak was cooked to perfection (medium rare) and had a delicious sauce on it, and the simple potatoes were roasted nicely, and the beans were tender crisp. Perfect. Our waiter surprised us with a delicious berry cobler with icecream for our anniversary.

All in all, we will go back. The service is excellent, the food is terrific and the location is awesome!

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful property in early October. We were travelling with our two dogs and the draw for this accomodation is that they welcome dogs (for an extra $10.00 per animal per night). We were camping in the valley with our young children 15 years ago when we stumbled upon this place and had an excellent meal in the restaurant (the restaurant is open to travelers, locals, and resort guests). We vowed to get back there someday to stay at the resort when we were too 'old to sleep on the ground anymore'. Enter October 2012!

We stayed in the Cedar cabin. It is a great cabin. Not all the cabins allow dogs but as we made reservations just a week before our arrival it was the only one left avail for dogs, and it was PERFECT. Most if not all cabins have fireplaces. We would have preferred a wood burner but cedar has a gas fireplace. The cabin had everything a small rustic log cabin should have for a get-away as far as basic necessities--no frills. Internet was sketchy as their WiiFi is very weak. We managed to log on the first night and never again thoughout the visit. But we did somehow survive without it. We had two TOP RATED dinners at the restaurant. Including a bottle of wine with dinner the bill came to @ $125.00 each evening. Absolutely worth every penny. I will agree with some other reviewers that the front row of cabins are quite close to Hwy 88 but the occasional trucks and the cars parading by were not a problem. I can't recall ever hearing them ever at night --unless I was listening for them--and at night they are few and far between in number. When we go back we might try to get a cabin just a tad farther into the property -- and there are many other cabins farther from the road deeper into the properties mini-valley than our "Cedar" was to pick from. The Aspen leaves were just about at peak fall color and it was beautiful.

We spent our days hiking with the dogs on the NUMEROUS trails. And the trailheads are within easy driving distance from the property (under 20 min drive). Also there is a nice hike behind the resort (8km I believe) that you can get to from the property itself. Our cabin had a hiking guide for the area which was extremely helpful (and truthful) about the beauty and strenuousness of each hike we picked out. You can purchase the book in the mini-store at the registration desk but we just put the one from the room in our backpack each day and headed out.

The staff was extemely friendly and helpful, Steve especially so. He seemed to be a jack-of-all trades. We can hardly wait to go back. This place is great for a romantic getaway, a group of co-workers getting away to unwind, families, reunions....it has it all.

Room Tip: The cabins situated deeper into the resort might be better for a light sleeper.

My husband and I rented Dancing Hall cabin for four nights last week and left totally refreshed. We had one breakfast and one dinner in the restaurant both of which were delicious. We also enjoyed dining on my cooking in our spacious kitchen, either on our back patio or at the big table inside, especially after a full day of hiking and exploration. We also ate at the historic Kirkwood Inn nearby. Sorenson's is a wonderful getaway and the area is stunningly beautiful. As fellow innkeepers of the Tallman Hotel in Upper Lake, we really appreciated the hospitality.

Room Tip: Dancing Hall is near the road but we were not disturbed by noise.

We just came back from a wonderful stay at Sorenson's. The food is outstanding. The salad dressing, some sort of herbal balsamic, is the best I have ever had, and they hand out the recipe if you request it. The quantities are generous, including the complimentary wine pour that my wife received on the day of our arrival. The coffee is exceptionally good.

We enjoyed our room, the Piñon, which may be the smallest and most rustic, but is priced to include breakfast. The doors could have latched more easily, but that was a small concern. Complimentary ear plugs we're provided, but not needed.

The staff was universally kind, efficient and knowledgeable.

I recommend purchasing the trail guide book that is available for reference in your room. It helped "save" two hikes that we took. There is also a very good trail map of the region on sale, in the office.

We hope to be able to return, and to return frequently.

Room Tip: Each room is quie unique. Some have private baths, and some are shared with an adjoining cabin. Most...

This was our first visit to Sorensen's, we live about an hour away and decided to take family on a drive to see the countryside and stop for lunch. The place is small, only about 6 tables, and they do not take reservations....we lucked out and were seated almost immediately. The menu is mostly sandwiches, and salads. There were wonderful side dishes, along with a quiche of the day, and their signature beef stew. The wine and beer list was extensive and the service was friendly and knowledgeable of the history of the area. Will try again, but, not on a holiday or weekend.

Really, really nice place with a great staff and good food. My wife and I have been coming here off and on for years, and it keeps getting better. Like others have noted, it can be *loud* because of the traffic on Hwy 88, so if you are a light sleeper, be warned. The grounds, however, are so very pleasant that I found myself forgetting the noise completely even while reading a book on the cabin porch.

No phones in the rooms (yay!), no cell service (yay!), WiFi possible but really slow ...

Hiking in the area is the best in the Sierra (and we've been everywhere) ... wildflowers last well into August, and there is a great hot springs only a half hour away.

BTW, about 1/3 of the cabins are dog friendly with a small fee. *Woof!*

We only stopped by here to eat dinner. It was a place I've heard good things about so we wanted to try it. The staff was very nice, but the service was pretty slow. The prices are too high, but I do have to say it was the best trout I've ever eaten. The bread was good and the atmosphere outside on the deck was great. I would come back here, but would probably skip the super overpriced drinks. We hope to come back and stay at the cabins there...
