I've stayed at this comfy Victorian house every year since 1996; usually for 4 - 7 nights while I perform at a local restaurant. I return here for a variety of reasons. The first is the location, close to the main street with a view of the canal, the locks, the blockhouse, historic homes and lovely old trees. Then there's the hosts. I've seen two sets of owners/hosts here. The current couple, Hugh and Debra, like their predecessors, are not merely welcoming: you are their guests and I return here because I feel I am coming home. I've stayed in B&B's all over Canada and few achieve the right balance of companionable professionalism. The little details are just right. If you're staying longer than 2 nights the breakfast selections change daily. If you are planning a longer stay book a multi-course dinner at the house: Debra is a professional chef, Hugh serves and is a wine enthusiast. Eat, drink, and then sit by the fire knowing you don't have to drive anywhere, a comfy bed is just upstairs.

My husband and I were absolutely charmed by Hugh and Debra and their lovely Victorian. Millisle is warm and welcoming, with an eclectic assortment of art and reading material everywhere.

After a glass of Merlot and nibblies in front of a crackling fire in the parlour, we lingered over an exquisitely prepared and presented dinner (Chef Debra's velvety, perfectly seasoned curried squash and apple soup was perfect for the cool fall evening and set the tone for the three other delicious courses that followed). We had a nice chat with Hugh and Debra about their world travels, then we retired to the Georgian Suite, with full bathroom, sitting room and a very comfy queen sized. After a great night's sleep, we somehow found room for an equally delicious breakfast.

Millisle is a perfecty located to serve as a base for walking tours of Merrickville`s many attractions. We are already planning a return visit, with a few other couples in tow, and we are looking forward to another great dinner out of Debra`s kitchen.

We stayed for one night at this lovely old house in Merrickville.

We had no reservation, as Hurricane Irene changed our vacation plans, and we just turned up on the proprietor's front doorstep. He could tell we were a bit out of sorts and made us feel very welcome and invited us out on the country style veranda, where he provided us with complimentary drinks.

There were several rooms to choose from. We had a very comfortable night in a king bed. Great mattress. There is a bit of noise from the CN main line which roars through at night, so if you're a light sleeper bring your ear plugs.

The breakfast is probably the best I have ever had at a B&B, or anywhere else for that matter. Right away, by the presentation of the food alone, I knew the chef was a professional. And indeed she was!

Very interesting couple and a quaint town. Proprietor also made excellent dinner and shopping recommendations. Would stay here again :)

Millisle Bed and Breakfast is a special slow-down retreat from the fast lane. The focal point is the large rambling Victorian house. The heart is in the warmth and friendliness of the hosts. The special treat was the dinner prepared by our hostess, Chef Debra, on the night of our arrival and served on the side veranda overlooking the garden. Breakfasts were outstanding. The stay felt like being back in my childhood home; a welcome break from the anonymity of the succession of motels that we usually resort to.
Millisle B&B is just steps from the main part of the town of Merrickville; a charming village that feels like a town in the English countryside. One can easily spend a couple of days boating on the Rideau, watching and learning about the canals and enjoying local shope and restaurants.

Room Tip: We only saw our suite on the second floor. It comprised a pretty large bedroom, a sitting room w/TV...

Located in one of the grandest old homes in the center of historic Merrickville, you will not be disappointed with your stay at Millisle. Gourmet chef Debra whirls up a storm in her professional kitchen while husband Hugh, a self-described "1st Mate, cabin boy, deck steward, eningeer and galley slave, ably assists her.

Millisle is located just steps from docking facilities on the Rideau Waterway, On our recent cruise, however, we got way behind the curve and couldn't make Merrickville on time as planned. Not to worry! Hugh and his sister-in-law drove to a marina in Manotick to pick up our gang of six.

We had a wonderful time Millisle Bed and Breakfast in Merrickville. We stayed for 2 nights. It was warm, comfortable decor. Our room was on the 2nd floor with a very large bath. We were very happy with the quality of the room. It was very relaxing.
Debra and Hugh, the hosts, are so kind and hospitable. And Debra is a wonderful chef! The food was amazing! I loved eating breakfast on the porch. I strongly recommend the Millisle.
The town of Merrickville is very nice too...little shops, a spa, a glass blowing shop, lots of little restaurants. We had a great time will definitely go back.

We stayed at the Millisle for several weeks during the winter of 2011. Hosts Hugh and Deborah were tremendously hospitable, and their home was warm and welcoming reprieve from our daily of work. Eating here is a must! Chef Deborah prepared many delicious meals for us, each one rivaling the other in taste and thoughtful presentation. This is B&B done right.
