“Lunch again”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2014

My wife and I enjoy walking and whenever possible break the walk by taking lunch at up market establishments. Here in Cornwall and west Devon we do have some really first class places to 'Break Bread' at. Talland Bay Hotel, The Lugger a Portloe, The Nare Hotel at Veryan, Hotel Tresanton St Mawes, Number Six, and Rich Stein's Seafood restaurant at Padstow, the Horn of Plenty at Gullworthy Tavistock, Gidleigh Park at Chagford have all at some time or other been graced with our presence. Today we found ourselves at the Nare Hotel sat in the Quarter Deck restaurant tucking in to an excellent lunch. The sun was shining and the view across the Hotel garden and out across Veryan bay was stunning (almost tropical). Absolutely deserving of its four red star status The Nare Hotel is without doubt a glorious place to visit.

Room Tip: We did not stay at the Nare so can not comment

22 of us went to the Nare for lunch to celebrate my Mother in Law's birthday. It was a fine day and we had drinks on the terrace with views of the beautiful gardens and sandy bay. A truely beautiful location.
The food was very good, and the service was exceptional, second to none!
Throughly recommended

A few weeks ago we went pass The Nare and saw a sign for non residents to stop for tea so we did. The welcome to begin with was good and we were shown into a nice room and sat down and then another man came up to us and asked if we were staying there and because we said NO we were asked to move into another room! apparantly the room we first went to was for afternoon tea for residents only. Anyway we sat and had tea overlooking the sea with wonderful views and were charged a hefty £8.50 for a cup of weak tea without biscuits or cake!
We did not like the attitude of the staff, how did they know that we weren't going to book a stay with them? If they don't want outsiders then they should not advertise outside for them to come in!

As a local resident who has visited this lovely hotel on many occasions, we chose to bring our guests here for coffee. The inclement weather meant that we could not sit on our usual millstone seat on the cliff edge, but chose instead to sit on the quarterdeck. On arrival we were approached by a less than friendly gentleman who we believed to be the Proprietor. He intimated that it was far too late for coffee and that all tables were reserved for lunch - even though there was nobody else sat on the quarterdeck at this time. He acquiesced however, informing us we had only 20 minutes in which to consume our coffee. We left feeling disheartened and upset by his abrupt manner - something we were not used to when previously visiting the hotel.
We would advice non-residents to visit for coffee (without lunch) before 11.30am.

Have eaten here before and have been amazed by the views, food and service. Views of course stay the same, food still good, service may be what some people (new rich maybe) want, but aloof/servile is not our thing. It also has to be said that just about every part of the hotel is looking a little 'down at heal' such a shame.

We booked for lunch last Sunday 23 March 2014. From the minute you arrive to the minute you leave you are made to feel utterly spoilt by the wonderful staff, and, I hasten to add this refers to ALL the staff, fabulous! The roast lunch was exceptional, all 6 courses! Silver service, too! I have to say the roast beef produced locally was divine, mouthwatering! All the courses were just delicious. The setting is quite beautiful above Carne Beach. If only we lived closer! This is a very special hotel, it's like stepping back in time where nothing is too much trouble, The Nare Hotel is run with efficiency, discreetness along with excellent manners, what a pleasure. We will return as soon as we are able!! Thank you to all at The Nare Hotel for the most fabulous Sunday lunch.

Four of us lunched here in March. We chose the Nare Hotel as it was exactly midway between us in the Lizard and our friends in Talland Bay. Booked a table at The Quarterdeck in advance as it sounded more 'casual' than the other restaurant there.

Was delighted to find the Hotel and Restaurant much better than anticipated. The location is absolutely stunning. The sun came out as we arrived and with the palm trees and the blue sea and sky, the views looked much like the Caribbean!

Lunch was also better than expected. I had two starters and a shared dessert. Scallops with bacon followed by homemade crabcakes. Both delicious. Portion size just right. The lemon tart with raspberry sorbet was perfect to finish. Nice touch bringing some chocolate fudge with the coffees.

We had a walk outside after lunch to get a closer look at those views. There is an outdoor pool and an indoor spa pool. Would be a great place to stay in the summer.

All in all, the four of us had a wonderful lunch and we would definitely come back here again, possibly with an overnight stay. Highly recommend.
