We have been visiting the Nare for many years and have experienced great food and service. This weekend we went for lunch at the quarter deck restaurant and whilst the food and service were excellent we were surprised and disappointed at the high prices of both the food and wine. The cheapest bottle of white wine was £23 which is more than Rick Steins.

My Partner and I came here over the bank holiday weekend. My parents have been here a few times and stayed and said it is amazing and I must agree.
We only stayed for lunch which we booked in advance which I think is the best thing as they get busy.
It is extremely peaceful as you sit in the lounge/bar area and relax with a drink before your meal. As we looked at the menu we were delighted to see the range of food and the price. It wasn't expensive, it was very reasonable. There was a set menu for the day or a light meal menu and seafood menu. The restaurant is also fine for children and there is plenty of food to choose from for them.
Beautiful setting and no complaints, next time I think I will stay a night but if not lunch and a walk on Carne Beach is amazing.

Room Tip: Book the restaurant in advance, don't just turn up in case it is full.

We visited The Nare as we had read favourable reviews in magazines and wanted a quality hotel in a lovely Cornish setting. The hotel is OK but no better than average and far too expensive for what it offers. On a positive note, the location is wonderful and the hotel is above a lovely beach. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was good (but not amazing). The negatives include the fact that the hotel is quite tired (carpets, decor etc.) and the pool area and gym in particular are quite scruffy. The food, whilst good, was over priced as was the wine list. The hotel also has a feeling of being like an old peoples home or Doctors waiting room with lots of guests who look as though they have been going to this hotel for the past 50 years. Whilst this did not cause a problem, it did mean the hotel was lacking in atmosphere and we (a couple in our late 40's) felt a little out of place. Finally the price! We felt that the hotel was charging more than double what it is worth. We frequently stay in very nice 'boutique' hotels which are less than half the price of The Nare and most are better. In terms of value for money this hotel deserves 1 star.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel!

Dropped in for a weekday lunch (for four of us) at the Quarterdeck restaurant.. Very reasonable fixed price (£23) 3 course menu. Wonderful food, superb service. Good wine list..

The hotel is in a fabulous position overlooking the beach but a brief tour around afterwards got me wondering how on earth it can justify its incredible high room rates (over £400in mid season for a double) which are equal to, if not more than many, 4 and five star London hotels..

The critically acclaimed Tresanton Hotel in nearby St Mawes (check out the reviews) is, about half the price!

Room Tip: Check out the rooms, evaluate the value before booking.

What a superb find! Some friends recommended The Nare and so we thought we’d spend a night there whilst in Cornwall and am so glad we did! It had the fee country house hotel without being antiquated, but rather in its ‘Hey Day’! Lots of well dressed people, enjoying the unrivalled views and relaxing whilst the charming but discreet staff were serving us marvelously. After only 24 hours, I felt rejuvenated.

We stayed in Room 39, which was enormous, with green curtains and its own terrace patio overlooking the lawns, which overlook the sea. It had a double bath and a large walk in shower. We arrived late, but were greeted like an old friend by the Night Manger (Nathan I think?). We had given an estimated arrival time upon making the reservation (they also ask whether you’d like sheets or a duvet!) but we couldn’t believe that we had two hot water bottles tucked nicely under the duvet! And this is only a 4* hotel?!

Breakfast was yummy! Lots of choice from a cold buffet, and the full English was perfect. Perhaps the sausage could have been browner.. but I am trying to find fault. After going for a run out to Nare Head (the headland on the left as you look out to sea – which is incredible, if not a little undulating) we had a swim and then enjoyed the hot tub. This is no ordinary relaxation bath. I’ve attached a photo as words cannot do it justice. It’s perfectly hot, bubbling, sitting 100ft above Carne Beach looking out over the beach and sea. I cannot believe they don’t make more of this on the website. This alone would tempt me to come back if I was in the area. Utterly fabulous.

We intended to head off late morning, but the friendly receptionist recommended the Quarter Deck for lunch – a quick look at the menu and we were sold. It has a wonderful old worldy feel about it with massive black and white old fashioned prints on the walls of tall ships and their crews sailing. Because there are some sails that are stowed on the ceiling, with the incredible views, it kind of feels like you’re at sea. I had the venison with gnocchi which was delicious, and my friend had a perfectly cooked crayfish omelet.

I could go on about things I haven’t mentioned… be it the amazing art work throughout, the fantastic staff (the General Manager even came to say hello to guests at breakfast) or the perfect back massage in their Spa. This is definitely a hotel worth staying it, on a romantic break, or with your family – it’s just delightful!

Room Tip: Go for a sea view - you'd be mad to stay and not enjoy the sea

We were driving round the Roseland Peninsula on a cold February evening and came across this hotel. We didn't stay the night just stayed for gorgeous meal. The location was perfect, overlooking the sea would be lovely to spend the night there sometime . The interior was very tastefully decorated ,loved the use of sails as blinds.
The food was lovely and the service was as good. A perfect end to a perfect day.

It takes a good navigator ( I have one - and not satnav!) to find The Nare on a cold wet December night , but there are many reasons to make the effort . In the first place this is effortless service and luxury which you might have thought perished around 1965 . When did you last arrive at a hotel room chilled to the bone and find the sherry decanter waiting purposefully on the side table ? Then again , as a good sign , a local and much extended family had moved in for dinner and an overnight stay , showing how this hotel is highly valued in the locality . Our four people for dinner was no problem , the food was excellent ( as is the wine list ) and the rooms comfortable . And our dog has not quite recovered from the joy of his own a la carte menu . His roast beef and kibble was served promptly at nine on Sunday morning , after he had walked the splendid cliff walks that surround the very beautiful beach setting of this hotel . This is one to return to and explore further .
