If taking leisurely travel to Cornwall and you have time, go via the ferry. Its cheap (£2:50) quick, easy to use and gives you a marvellous view of the river and the Naval Dockyard.

If you prefer to go into or out of Cornwall by ferry instead of using the Tamar bridge, then this is the way to go. It's a short crossing, nice on a fine day. It does what it is meant to.

Usually runs on time but always seems to have delays when i am in a hurry to get to work. - No other option of getting to work unless i want a 12 mile drive around to Saltash.

I lived in Torpoint for 2 years and if I had to get to Plymouth, it was a choice between the Tamar Bridge or the Torpoint Ferry. The bridge was invariably jammed solid, with traffic backed up through the Saltash tunnel and sometimes further back the A38 than that. It's also a considerable drive from Torpoint along a twisty country road to Trerulefoot where you then pick up the A38 towards Plymouth, a total distance of about 18 miles.

So, for anyone living in Torpoint, the ferry is a no-brainer alternative. At peak times there are usually three ferries running, which gives a period of about 10 minutes between them. The crossing to Devonport in Plymouth is enjoyable and scenic, with great views of berthed warships of the Royal Navy. The current cost is just £1.50 return which represents fantastic value for money and saves a longish drive and the regular traffic queues for the bridge. You pay the £1.50 just for the Torpoint to Plymouth ride, the return trip is "free".

This is such a good way of getting from Torpoint to Plymouth. The service runs regularly so no need for long waits.
