“Fast efficient service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2013 via mobile

Fast service with excellent food and a welcoming open fire. Scallops were perfect followed by a great British steak. This must be one of the most welcoming pubs in the UK - all the locals are very friendly and chatty

Stayed here for 2 nights.. Fantastic location and comfortable hotel. Only thing i noticed regarding the room was perhaps the carpet was worn and neeed of upgrading. The bar is very very busy and offers a good selection of food and drinks. The breakfast menu catered for everyone.

Room Tip: The rooms on floor 2 get a reception for mobile phones.

Many thanks for your review. We are delighted to hear you had an enjoyable stay at The Top House Inn. Our breakfast choice and quality is always well received and a very important start to the day for our guests. We will look into the worn carpet you mentioned, thank you. We hope to welcome you back to The Top House Inn one day. Best wishes James and Donna Glosby

We stayed 2 nights midweek in August. We had the room called Prilla, a twin on the ground floor. It was slightly cheaper than the other rooms because there is no view, in fact it has obscured glass in the windows (like a bathroom window). However, there was plenty of light, the room was clean and spacious, the bathroom was suberb and the beds very comfortable, and it was quiet. We were very pleased with the choice.

We ate here on the first night. Being August, they were extremely busy and we had quite a wait for dinner after we had ordered it. The second night we tried the other pub in the village for a meal.

The star among the staff here is the young lady who checked us in and out and served breakfast. Her name I think is Tauna ar Tawna (rhymes with Lorna). She was friendly, efficient and pleasant and really made our stay very enjoyable.

Also, the honey toiletries supplied in the bathroom were superb - really felt luxurious.

Room Tip: Prilla is a twin bedded room on the ground floor. It was slightly cheaper than the other rooms bec...

Have stayed at the Top House on a number of occasions over the years and never disappointed.
Situated in the centre of Lizard village and a short walk from Lizard Point. Car parking provided in Pub Car Park or on adjacent green Car Park.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Rooms are all very good, well fitted and clean. Tea and coffee making plus TV. Comfortable beds and nice bathrooms - shower gel and shampoo provided. Upper level rooms have good views out to sea.
Pub style restaurant with good choice of food - reasonable quality. Good choice and quality for breakfast.
The Top House is a nice place to be - I would recommend for a short break.
A slight criticism is that the food and drink prices do seem to be a little full from my experience.

Room Tip: Choose an Upper Level room with a view out to sea if you can.

We stayed for two nights at the Top House, and overall, were not disappointed. Staying in the Pentreath room, it was a bit of a haul up to the second floor, but it had a pleasant sea view of the sun setting in the West (albeit over adjacent rooftops). No problems with the room other than the hot/cold control on the shower being reversed (at least to our logic!) Evening meals were enjoyable with an excellent choice. A slight downside on the second evening was that the 'soup of the day' (pea or pea and ham) took half an hour to arrive, and when it did, was rather bland, the predominant taste being of salt and pepper!) The rest of the meal was very nice though.
Breakfasts were generally good but a little more imagination for us non-meat eaters would have been appreciated.
A really good choice of real ales are available in the bar, but somewhat more pricey than we are used to. (I suppose that we should expect this when on holiday in the south of the UK though.)
The location is great for walking the South West coastal path, visiting Lizard Point and the lighthouse, etc. Plenty of other local walks too, for example a return walk to nearby Church Cove is recommended for burning off a few calories after the evening meal. Kynance Cove (further afield!) is particularly recommended, but check that the tide will be out to avoid disappointment.
Finally, staff service was generally very good (other than the 'slow' soup). 'Joe' greeted us on arrival and showed us to our room, and the young lady who served us breakfasts was exceptionally pleasant and polite and deserves a special mention. I believe her name was something like 'Tauanna', but must apologise as I have almost certainly mis-spelled this.
A very pleasant two days in all.

Room Tip: I suspect that rooms on the second floor will have the better sea views.
