Owner description: With the help of a generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Trinity House renovated the Engine Room at Lizard Lighthouse, retaining some of the old engines. It now also features new exhibition material, an audio visual room and a number of interactive displays. The Lizard Lighthouse Heritage Centre was officially opened in 2009 by HRH The Princess Royal. The distinctive twin towers of Lizard Lighthouse mark the most southerly point of mainland Britain. See displays depicting Trinity House's history, housed in the original engine room. It was commissioned in 1752. For over 250 years, the lighthouse has provided a welcoming landfall light to vessels crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Tours of Lizard Lighthouse are organised under licence from the Corporation of Trinity House.

“Excellent, well worth it.”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

We went to the Lighthouse as we have always been interested in these amazing buildings. As you enter the staff are welcoming and very friendly, we decided to take the tour (if you are National Trust Members you get 10% off) and we joined a family with two young children. Our tour guide (thank you very much John) was very welcoming and informative and gave all of us the time needed (our group was made up of adults, 2 young children and us two who are not that fit). We learnt lots about the operation of the lighthouse and how things were run in the past plus very uptown date info. Once at the top (it is fairly easy to climb as not that high) John took a photo for each group and ensured he answered all questions and again outside he offered to take photos of each group. Very well worth the visit and I would recommend this to all.

“Fasinating History, amazing views”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

Lovely museum showing the history of lighthouses. Not a massive museum but they make the most of the space they have with facts and figures hidden in drawers you have to open to. Ok not amazing but it makes it more fun opening a drawer to find out what there is. Its cheap to get in to less than £3 a person. If you want a bit more you can add a tour of the working lighthouse to your ticket price, its an extra £7 but worth it. Our guide was fantastic, very knowledgable, enthusiastic, and engaging. The views are fantastic, dont worry though there arent hundreds of stairs as the lighthouse didnt need to be that high.

“A must if you visit Cornwall”
Reviewed April 19, 2013

We spent a full day at the Lizard and at the Heritage Centre, we took the option for a tour of the lighthouse and was not disapointed. John, our tour guide, was very informative and explained the full history of the lighthouse and how it has been adapted over the years, it was truly fascanating and was was well worth the entry fee.

Whist your at the Lizard dont forget to have a walk along the costal path, it has some stunning scenery and the path is easy underfoot.

When we next visit to Cornwall we will certainly be returning.

“Well worth a visit”

I didn't go up the lighthouse but some of the group did and enjoyed it. The heritage centre itself was a great place to while away an hour out of the wind.

“A great half day visit !”
Reviewed April 10, 2013 via mobile

We chose to visit the lighthouse and centre on a rainy day and were delighted by the most friendly and engaging staff who brought the whole visit up the lighthouse to life .. And patiently answered all our questions . It is not the largest of places but our two kids 14 and 11 were entertained by the amusing anecdotes and the heritage centre .. We are now lighthouse converts and are looking forward to adding to our lighthouse passport which don from the liskeatd lighthouse had cleverly put together
