Owner description: With the help of a generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Trinity House renovated the Engine Room at Lizard Lighthouse, retaining some of the old engines. It now also features new exhibition material, an audio visual room and a number of interactive displays. The Lizard Lighthouse Heritage Centre was officially opened in 2009 by HRH The Princess Royal. The distinctive twin towers of Lizard Lighthouse mark the most southerly point of mainland Britain. See displays depicting Trinity House's history, housed in the original engine room. It was commissioned in 1752. For over 250 years, the lighthouse has provided a welcoming landfall light to vessels crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Tours of Lizard Lighthouse are organised under licence from the Corporation of Trinity House.

We enjoyed the hands on experience in the museum, our kids are 4 and 6 and like to fiddle. The trip up the lighthouse was very interesting, and the last 19 steps are a climb up a ladder - exciting for the kids. This is one of the only lighthouses still open to the public - it needs visitors to keep going - please ensure you go....the views around are breathtaking

Very interesting tour for us and 2 young boys up the lighthouse tower. It's a narrow lane to the NT car park but it was possible for a confident driver to take a camper van apparently! Equally, it's a nice walk from the village.

I found the centre staff friendly, welcoming and very well-informed.
The lighthouse tour was great and our guide gave us a detailed and informative tour. However he certainly wasn't at all stuffy - he was funny and he entertained the children.

We visited here on a glorious winter day and enjoyed the informative trip. Nice to have hands on exhibits in the museum as well as the history of the lighthouse. Not for the infirm and best on a clear day as when we went. Good quality products at a reasonable price in the shop - teenage son was very happy with his purchase of a good quality bronze look Lancaster bomber pencil sharpener - amongst a good selection of similar products.

I visited today having not been for a number of years and what a change. The heritage centre is very hands on, interesting and informative. I was really impressed with the layout etc. We paid to go to the top of the lighthouse with a guide who certainly knew all about everything.
All in all a very good place to take children but the lighthouse itself is not for the less abled.
Cant wait to go again!!
